  1. I ve bought a replacement generator for my groundhog unit from that company and were decent to deal with if you go direct they will give you some discount off that price.
  2. I am not a for or against but I feel that there is a marked improvement on sheffields roads and pavements since this new contract when it was maintained by the council they were terrible pot holes you nearly lost a wheel in street lights nearly rotted through people should give them some credit. If you drive down many of sheffields tree lined streets the damage to the pavements is quite obvious so people have a choice they either want safe to walk on pavements were the council aren't liable for trip hazards or the trees which will go on causing more damage as they grow . I think the trees have just got to big and are now causing damage which will just get worse if there is a sensible programme of removal and replacement this would solve the problem of damage and still retain the green spaces of Sheffield. If these trees were causing damage to the protestors property I think their view would be slightly different?
  3. Hi thanks for your response if you want to pm me your number and I will have a good look at it this weekend and get a list together and give you a call. Thanks again John
  4. Hi everyone I am about to start a restoration project. Its a bow top gypsy caravan I will be wanting some ash to steam bend for the hoops and some other pieces for various parts I will have to get a list together soon it only came into the yard last weekend. So if anybody has any coming up in the near future I would be interested. I am based in Chesterfield but would be willing to travel. Any help is appreciated. Thanks John
  5. Couple of years back we got quickly over run with them they chewed a hole in the hen shed hatch so I got a piece of 4inch sewer pipe taped some wire to one end which formed a funnel that they could only go one way then I taped 2 or three poly prop bags on the end. I used to creep up put the trap over the hole then switched the light on. There would be so many go in then the rest would hide were they could in the shed. So I went in with a piece of threaded bar sharpened on the end with a couple of nuts on for added just to be sure. I managed to kill 65 rats over a period of around 4 weeks became a bit of an obsession must have been my lust for blood . I have fen traps set in a chamber built of dry bedded bricks with just a half a brick gap at either side with a concrete paver on top usually keeps them in check and no risk to wildlife or my poultry.
  6. I am looking for a splitter if you could pm me somemore details that would be great thanks
  7. I have 200l plastic drums and my supplier will happily fill them . I have them because I can pop them on back of pick up and take to site and use a transfer pump. I thought they may be funny about filling them but they said no problem
  8. Get saving as usually with euro auctions you need 10k deposit to get a bidders paddle saying that it will put some off and you usually end up bidding against the dealers. I have been to the leeds auction a couple of times and in the main the prices are reasonable but nothing is given away.
  9. What a waste of an afternoon making such a useless bit of kit weres the chain lubrication? Then there will be some out there think that's a good idea and it will probably cost more than buying a proper electric chainsaw
  10. It would be even better if he could get his perps full
  11. Yes be discrete with your markers for your traps my mate had 16 nicked over Christmas out of a field in front of his house his failing I think was using a white marker stick about 2ft long you could see them half a mile away. I use the scissor traps but I widen the jaws a little in the vice lets them get in a little easier have reasonable success set 9 traps over Christmas caught 5 and one misfire
  12. Have you thought of either heat shrink plastic on top that really is tough stuff or use visqueen 1200 gauge cut to come down the sides about a foot and then stretch film wrapped round horizontally or you could get pallet covers which would fit over and then stretch film .
  13. I personally wouldn't bother buying second hand especially stihl saws from what I see happening to them on sites you don't know what you are getting and for a couple of hundred pounds extra on top of the price of a good second hand one you can get one with warranty and you know how its been treated. I usually keep mine about 4 years sell them on ebay and have a new one costs less than a pound a week and my saw is used nearly every day. I go for the husky with a 14inch blade found them to be the most reliable and are usually cheaper.
  14. I would try either lawsons in cumbria or hr gray there over the border they both seem to get down south . sorry Ive not got any numbers but foundboth companies ok
  15. Ive got two elu superjaws had them years and served me well bought them to make a load of batten doors for a barn conversion they had enough clamping force to do the same job as sash clamps but twice as quick. At first the folding up procedure can confuse some people but once you've done it a couple of times its only a few seconds job. You could always get the mrs to buy you one for christmas
  16. Depends if you are near but WATTS&CO Auctions usually have some exhire stuff in there auction usually decent makes think there next auction is next Saturday.
  17. Hall Plant Hire have a greenwaste site in chesterfield about a 20 min drive from hope valley .I don't know wether they accept green waste but Blue Star Enviromental who are at Bradwell might be able to help.
  18. As one or two have suggested the aladin flask is the best of them all had Stanley, thermos and some unbranded ones but the aladin as shown in the picture is the one I fill at 7 in the morning and the spare water that I empty out is still hot enough to make a drink with. The member who has had his Stanley for 25 years will have a good one they were made in America up until around 6 years ago moved to china now, my local agricultural merchants wont stock them anymore because they have had that many comebacks. I bought mine from TK MAX cost me around £12
  19. I agree had a r reg mk5 150 turbo van best transit ever if you don't do a lot of motorway work .I think you will be very lucky to find a good useable one now unless you look in classic van section of auto trader. Ive got a mk6 twin cab tipper 135 ps great van six speed but I had to put a new engine in at 40k which pissed me off a bit and body wanting some welding doing so really check if its solid. Think next time I swap will go mad with wax oil try and preserve it a bit.
  20. I usually run them through the bench saw (metabo tks) avoiding the nailed areas doesn't take long much quicker than a chainsaw and you can get nail eater blades I think from evolution power tools if you are worried about hitting the odd nail. But the amount of timber you get out of them I think they are seriously hard work if they are in good nick there are plenty of pallet dealers who would probably give you something for them ?
  21. As said before standard block paving isn't permeable, water coming up through the joints is usually due to ponding of water underneath the paving surface in the subbase and the sand bed the sand gets water logged and turns to something like semolina pudding and starts to come up through the bricks and the paving starts to sink. The drain if perforated could have roots in in it and the perforated coils can easily become blocked if there is a lot of sediment going down it especially if there isn't a lot of fall. IMO I would lift the block paving replace the perforated under the block paving with 100mm solid underground pipe and let the perforated pipe run into a roddable back inlet bottle gulley this would act as a silt trap and keep things clear plus there are less joints for any roots to get into on the solid plastic pipe
  22. Don't bother setting them on try and keep them on a self employed basis too much hassle when you are in a small way I only had one on the books was more hassle than 10 subbies and cost me a small fortune to get rid of them never again subbies for me every day you can afford to pay them a better hourly rate if you add up all the add ons you have to pay holidays pensions sick pay paye paternity leave or even maternity leave if you are lucky its a mine field that I will never set foot in ever again. good luck
  23. Why don't you draft a document stating that we (the potential customer)have given you instructions to carry out the work after receiving verbal permission from the owner and that they take full responsibility for their instructions. At least if any problems do arise then you would be clear of responsibility. It is always difficult with older / vulnerable people as suggested in previous posts I like to run things past a family member even sending them a copy of quotes etc .
  24. I hired one from halls, hire most of my heavier plant from them usually good on price and service infact I had a track off an 8 tonner last week they were out within 30 mins. If I remember the chipper which is like new was £400 a week but the first day is £125 and further days were around £80 these were trade rates not diyers rates I do spend a lot with them. I have also had them off A plant in the past before Halls had one they are opposite Sheffield arena there is also ranskill hire near retford they might have a towable chipper only had a tractor mounted one off them but worth a phone call One word of advice make sure you have got some plant insurance in case anything happens
  25. I have recently had repairs carried out on my oil fired rayburn it is the 2 burner model in October last year the solenoid failed on the heating side we were charged £168 which included vat two visits and the part which we happily paid. Last month the cooker side failed the engineer came out his words to my wife were its the same problem as last time in hind sight we should have swapped both solenoids. We have just received a bill for £360 I have queried the invoice the secretary rang me back after talking to the boss he couldn't take the time to call me she said that they changed both solenoids and the solenoid bases. The engineer left the faulty part for us to dispose of only one item which to me looked like the solenoid top only. I like the engineer nice chap who knows what he is doing but I feel his boss is ripping me off if I refuse to pay the full amount I will have probably closed the door on this firm but I hate being ripped off . Your views would be appreciated
