  1. I bought mine from zenith survey think they do ex hire ones if your on a budget still checked and calibrated. I usually get the divining rods out for the water and gas and don't laugh they do work
  2. It all depends on your supply of wood I started with a processor a basic second hand jappa 700 which would be fine for 8-9inch . How ever things change I used to buy in cord but have now found it harder to come by and more expensive . I have now also got a 20 ton horizontal splitter which would do billets as well as rings as I split more arb waste than anything else . I think an ideal set up for you would be a splitter which would do big rings and make billets of the straighter smaller dia stuff season the billets then cross cut with a rocking table saw I process 60-80 ton a year as a spare time thing
  3. Just a thought why don't you set up a plant hire business for the chipper alone and hire that charging vat to your other business no cross over then you could do this with any other large items.
  4. I have a sine wave inverter 1000w for my battery tools mainly bosch 18v and 36v and the charge times are no different to mains. I agree with the point of having 2 batteries on the truck as I don't think 1 will be enough my transit tipper has 2 as the tipper is electric and my inverter is hardwired onto them. I wouldn't be without this set up it has saved me hours in lost time and is so convenient there is nothing more frustrating than not having enough charge to finish a job.
  5. I agree a poly tunnel is a good way I air dry mine which is easy as we are nearly a 1000ft up and the wind is always blowing it would be best I think to air dry the logs and finish them in the kiln . My problem is that we can get low cloud and everything just gets wet so thought a small kiln to just finish 10m3 at a time.
  6. I again have thought about this idea I would run the flue down the length of the container to get the heat out before it is lost and I was going to install a dehumidifier the large type you get on sites with the outlet piped to the outside . I think it would work well as long as you have enough air movement.
  7. what is it and where are you based
  8. I know exactly what you are experiencing I used to buy hardwood cord in just a couple of load at a time its doubled in price since 2012 but I struggle to get a 10% increase in price over the same period. I have started using arb waste a lot slower to process but I am not laying thousands out just to get a bit back . I only do it part time wouldn't want to rely on it as my sole income.
  9. As always the minority will spoil it for the majority just like the idiot who caused the Selby rail crash that set the ball rolling for tacho's for towing and probably trailer tests.
  10. Does anyone know if you can get a woodcracker for a 1.5 ton mini or would I be better with a screw splitter I am wanting it for breaking down tree sumps and roots either dug out or in the ground and also reducing oversize firewood. Cheers John
  11. Is the 100km rule as the crow flies from address where vehicle is registered to point of destination. I don't normally go out of this area for work but I do go to an auction which road distance is over but straight point to point is under.
  12. Just a thought why don't we set up our own regulatory body on firewood we have enough knowledge here on this forum to be credable
  13. I seem to think CPL did something similar a customer of mine was mates with owner of Cpl and he brought him a few round to trial I think you just lighted the bag and it had a fire lighter and kindling in it. It was aimed at posh people who had never lighted a fire before. Overall I think it would sell
  14. Have you thought about a pto pump I have a woodline with pto pump very happy with speed
  15. Yes I agree as long as its seasoned and dry I don't know why people get so picky with the species firewood they are burning. This winter all I have burnt is some poplar which I had dropped off free its bone dry yes it burns a bit quick but we only light the fire about 6pm when we get in so want some quick heat been down to the t shirt some nights its been that hot.
  16. Just seen my first swallow of the year which has surprised me somewhat as its 7 days early and we had a few inches of snow here at the beginning of the week.
  17. Depends were you are building it if it is in your domestic curtilage (back garden) if the ridge height isn't higher than 4m then that would be permitted development if you aren't in a conservation area or a listed building . I have built a workshop and a very large greenhouse on these rights but I did write to the planners first and ask if I needed permission . This was the right move as my neighbours shopped me they came out saw I was following my plans I had submitted no problem. They had however told me wrong on the workshop I should have applied but because I had got written instructions to carry on there was nothing anybody could do.
  18. Hi are you in need of some now I am getting low on stocks but starting to get ready for next season but would be able to sort you some to keep you going  they are hardwood I usually charge £70/m3 wholesale

Okay short term but want to fill the log sheds up over the next few months so all is ready for Autumn.

  19. are you looking for it in one hit or so smaller deliveries hardwood or softwood or mixed what part of north notts
  20. Use a mini acetalene bottle or a couple or three of the plumbers map gas that would sort them
  21. I have been offered some birch firewood not big stuff 2-6 inches what would be a fair price to pay per tonne collected on the ride side .
  22. I find a tracked min dumper an invaluable piece of kit I ve got an hinowa one brilliant go anywhere uses about 2 pints of diesel all day and doesn't make much mess has yours got steering clutches or is all hydraulic with a spool block like the hinowa
  23. I have a hunter and usually replace mine every 3-4 years
  24. I definitely think a flue problem the twin walls are prone to it don't fit them any more due to the hassle I have had with them over the years. The last one which I was involved with we swapped it for a proper masonary flue with clay liners in end of problem. The twin walls are insulated but only about 30mm of rockwool. I would try and insulate the flue as much as possible inside the property so the gases are kept as hot as possible when they leave the roof space. I had one call back we had built a garden room which they had a wood burner installed by another company they said my roof was leaking as they had water running down the side of the flue and dripping off when it got to the bend. I stripped the slates off around the flue everything perfect you could see the beads of condensation on the outside of the flue in the roof space area which was only 400mm high . I packed rockwool round it problem solved.
