  1. There is one at sheepbridge chesterfield about 15-20min away it is run by hall plant hire there is an energy plant kantor energy I don't know wether they take chip.
  2. what sort of timber is it could collect the logs
  3. well what a bargain it fetched £510 I was talking to a lad on site once said he had a 395 for sale went round to look at it and it was one just like that when I told him it was a fake started arguing so went to the pick up and showed him the real thing went very quite. I think these fake saws are only 28cc so you are going to be very disappointed when you pop a 30inch bar on. A fool and there money are easily parted
  4. Very interesting set of figures thanks for sharing throws most domestic log customers theory that they have got to pay a premium for ash looks like larch would be a more economical way of heating
  5. I don't intend to sound like I am inflating wages but that is what the big sites are having to pay especially the housing sites I do feel you arb lads work very hard for your money harder than most brickies who have telehandlers and ready mixed mortar to hand. I did say top earners the average for trades and this is subcontract plasterers £140 joiners £180-200 brickies £180 -225 thisis day rate for self employed. I feel the £7.50 an hour is really a lot less than half what a climber is worth but there is always someone out there who needs a job and would be happy to work for this but I would say they will be few in number. I do think it is about time skilled trades got what they are worth rather than the guys with the suits
  6. I struggle to get lads to sweep up fetch carry and mix for £10 an hour . To answer Khriss bricklayers are in clover at the moment £500 plus per thousand and £15 a meter for blockwork top end lads are easily achieving 60-80k
  7. I would say definitely sewage It has rural district council marking as most district sewers were laid by the rdc's . It may be a topwater drain its the A that is a mystery the 10 will be either the distance or diameter of the pipe. Would be nice to find out
  8. Check with your local highways as they might do street works training my local council does Derbyshire it only lasts for 3 years as well I did my first coarse at Sheffield construction college as ben Edmonds has said you would only need the signing lighting and guarding section as the rest of the coarse covers excavation backfilling and reinstatement of the highway. If its something you will need on a regular basis then go for it but I would check with some of the traffic management companies how much they charge per day for such work there seems to be a lot more companies doing it now so prices may have come down
  9. I am on a small scale 100-150 bags a year that is all I have time for with other work commitments. I personally feel that you do better selling them in bags people don't grasp the quantity in a loose load which on my transit pick up is 4 builders bags . I get on average 55 a bag for my arb arisings so 220 a load you will struggle to get this you may get 190 if you are lucky. I can also carry 6 bags on the truck so it also reduces mileage I try and group my deliveries so I go out fully loaded. I make crates up out of the timber from plasterboard pallets they measure w2.4mxd1.2mxh1.8m I just cover the top with good quality visqueen and they dry lovely. Out of the crates of stacked neat logs I get 8 bags which should give you an idea of volume with bought in crates. So I agree buy in a few crates to sell on or see if any members on hear could sell you a bulk load of ready to sell then start and get some arb arisings and get splitting for next season .
  10. If you have seen the state of sheffields roads before they took over I am surprised they can do it for that it I believe the contract period is 25 years . There is a vast improvement in the roads from previous local authority run maintenance programme.
  11. My opinion on this matter living close to Sheffield I also know some of the Acorn team great bunch of hardworking lads just going out to do a job which is perfectly legal and is being paid for by the rate payers of Sheffield. Its ok having a passion about trees but if you have got to live daily with pavements that have ruts in them bigger than a camels hump damage to boundary walls kerbstones raised 6inches higher than they should be then you would want something done about it.The trees have outgrown their surroundings . The council has limited resources so the sensible and practical option is to remove and replant . The trees in question all started out as saplings it is a rolling programme they aren't chopping every tree down in one operation and not replacing them. But whatever you do not everyone will be happy but for these idiots to go into work areas hanging on to trees and giving the lads on the ground abuse they deserve all they get imo they should be arrested and charged with obstructing someones lawful business but the police stand there like lemons. If one were to get injured it wouldn't be their fault I have worked on fracking sites the protestors were a mix of 10% locals and 90% social drop outs who we are keeping that have made protesting a profession who exaggerate the truth, make biased videos as propaganda to make their opponents look incompetent. When it comes down to it do these protestors represent the majority of sheffields residents probably not. If you don't agree with something you have an opportunity when things go to planning or in this case council policy meetings to have your say that is the democracy we live in. If it doesn't go your way man up and accept it this work has been sanctioned by your elected members if you want a voice stand for council at the next election lets see how many votes you get
  12. There are one or two good things like raising the income tax level and the top rate up .However on the housing front I think these figures of 300k per year new houses are unachievable and I don't think after a few years there will be the demand for such quantities . With regards to first time buyers I think they should have some government backed savings scheme to help them with the deposit higher rate of interest and whatever money they put in they shouldn't have tax or ni deducted from it this would encourage them to save and what about tax relief on mortgage payments just a couple of ideas better than a headline giveaway which is a help but isn't that big a gift
  13. Why don't you just get a fridge body of a truck already insulated ready to go
  14. No found it to take anything I throw at it I am having it repaired by a professional welder he will mig weld it I want to go onto billets and season them in the bundle then log them up as I sell them that's why I went for this splitter
  15. Yes same model as mine it started with a small split which I had welded then the rest just split leaving the repaired bit in tact
  16. I have got a 20t horizontal log splitter just blown end cap off ram has anybody else had this problem

  18. I use a magtron rota broach had it fully refurbed by magtron at Sheffield like new again for £100 the rotabroach cutters only go down to 10 or 12mm but the speed of drilling is fantastic with tools you get what you pay for if its something you are going to use regular spend the money
  19. I am 6 miles off jnct 29 m1 would take logs give you some beer tokens as well could take some chip if you are desperate 07977 915448
  20. Hi everyone I am looking for an outfront ride on for my own use at home want one with a mulching deck I am considering either a Husqvarna rider or a stiga can get a cutting deck width of around 1050mm through the garden gates Has anyone had any experience of these mowers reliability quality of cut and finish. 24. I'd go with the double cab transit I took the rear seats out fitted a plywood bulkhead and put a full width shelf amazed how much gear I can get in I also had the windows tinted with the darkest film you cant see in.Total cost excluding my time to convert around a hundred quid. The truck is a bit long but you get used to it and there are plenty about to choose from.
