  1. As far as i know the maxi blades and Scarlet blades are still available, back then they were 20mm centres, i may have some flanges about.

  4. 550 650 were much the same, both had spur sprockets as standard, the part no. you had on your sprocket was the correct no. unfortunately I check and is no longer available, there is no rim sprocket listed in the parts list, there must be an Oregon replacment one available somewhere.
  5. Still thinking about this, is it possible the spark plug is loose and hot gasses are escaping causing the filter to melt?
  6. That looks more like friction melting, is the air filter housing correctly fixed into the rubber mounts, or sitting on top of them, this could cause the filter to contact the the cover and the vibrations of the saw cause some melting.
  7. The only time I saw anything like melting air filters was on 372 this was traced to an ignition unit fault, it would back fire through the inlet and in doing so melt the filter screen, could be a similar fault, as for over heating cylinder, no way.
  8. Sorry you lost me someware, once the bearings are pressed onto the crank they should be a good interferece fit and not move, if they are lose on the crank you have an issue, are you heating the cases to fit the bearings into the cases?

    All depends on what you are used too working on, i am sure with some service training and the correct tools, you would find the Husqvarna just as easy to strip as the Stihl, maybe easier!

The bearings must be fully onto the crank, however it's about where the bearings sit in the crankcase, there are special tools that make sure they are in the correct place, it is important so as the pump does not ride on the bearing as the pump will will bow when the three fixing screws are tightened down, without the tool you will have to measure the depth of the rear of the pump where it fits into the crankcase, then ensure there is sufficent space for it not to touch the bearing, if I get five minutes I will measure the the depth of the tool.

Nothing much to go wrong with the heater system, generator behind the flywheel sens power to the under side of the top handle ( so never push two saws together with bars chains through the handles) into the heater element, back down and to the r/h heater pad, through the fixing screw to the l/h heater pad and up to the switch ( some had a thermostat rather than a switch, the whole system needs continuity, so any breaks and no heating, make sure the pas fixing screw is painted or you will get a shock in wet conditions

A few things to remember on re build, make sure the drive side bearing is in far enough or when you fit and tighten the oil pump it will bow due to bottoming out on the bearing , this will lock the pump shaft, be careful re fitting the pump as the step in the crank will catch the seal and roll the spring out, make sure the o ring on the pump, and the flywheel side seal carrier are in good condition, grease well when re assembling, the crank seal in the pump should stand proud out the back by the chambered seal edge of the seal, do not push in flush or the pump drive gear ans washer will rub on the seal.
  14. Sorry should be a 6202 bearing, bloody old age!
  15. Spud is quite correct the drive side seal is in the pump housing, turning the crank with the flywheel connected you will feel a lumpiness as it passes the ignition unit, could this be what you are feeling? the bearings are just 6205s and woul.d require splitting the cases.
  16. Depends on the age of the saw, the very early 61 had a small breather cap part no 501564101, this also fitted the early 162, this cap is no longer available, the later cap 501626601 ( black) is far bigger, 501626602 is the same cap in grey, all 61s had an alloy crankcase.
  17. Zenoa is branded Redmax i believe not Jonsered.

It was always Jonsered, no s on the end,it was sold by Westmac until it was moved in with Husqvarna, the range lost its true identity, so Husqvarna products were basically coloured red and black, most Husqvarna models are available Jonsered branded, they have different top handles ( straight across ) side covers and top covers, the 625 was the Husqvarna 61, 630 was the 162, 670 was the 266, the models then gained a prefix CS, cs2149 (346) cs2156(357) etc, cs2260 (560) cs2253 (550) i could go on but dont want to bore everybody, the brand is still going and still owned by Husqvarna, ironically it is an older brand than Husqvarna, and Partner even older, the brand as far as i know its just not sold in the UK.
  19. Lift the cylinder off again, push the con rod hard against the crank journal, now check for any up and down in the big end, the movement you can feel could also be the ring moving in the ring groove.

  21. Any good chainsaw shop would make a chain up off the reel no problem.

The pencil style breather was used on many models 242/254/262/162/266/272/268/181/281 etc, i am not aware there had been any on going issue with it, a piece of sponge is going to leak, well like a piece of sponge, so i cannot imagine why anybody would try to use it. there was a breather used which was two white tablets pressed into the tank ( vion ) these did leak until completely soaked in fuel/oil, this was replaced by a small cylindrical assembly with a pipe nipple on top, these are still used to present day.
  23. Correct spud it was a pencil type breather, the later ones were actually pushed not screwed in, to remove you had to use curved nose pliers through the fuel filler hole to push them out. I think the other chap is thinking about the pre filter on the 242/42.
  24. I agree you are going to need a few spare batteries if you are just stood cutting off rings one after another.
