  1. Some big large gnarly seasoned hardwood rounds with knots in is best. Had a few dozen big elm rounds left over from dutch elm disease dead felled trees was using for yrs made wonderful chopping blocks. Also have a few tonnes of hardcore and some drainage pipe under the ground below the "lawn" area i split so doesn't get muddy etc Don't bother with using grenades hammers wedges etc, if the maul won't spilt it just put in to one side then "noodle" it with chainsaw its alot quicker & less hassle imo. For kindling I made on of theese:
  2. Looks like this type. Not better than a regular fork tbh This design seems more sensible
  3. Have a antique "potato fork" with wider tines still stab them though
  4. Anyone seen any trees recover someone said some trees can/may still recover but iv'e not noticed any trees do that? Seems to be the ones with it only getting worse so far?
  5. Always grow charlotte ones
  6. Looks like fancy a himalayan one? Pricey specimen tree newly planted?

  8. Just got some new chipper spec ear muffs should of got them yrs ago even though I rarely use a chipper as the extra noise blocking is nice for any machine.
  9. I have a mountfield with the honda engine its ok SP53H bought new had for about 5yrs. They still sell the model Mountfield SP53H 51cm Self Propelled Petrol Lawnmower | Charlies WWW.CHARLIES.CO.UK Deck is starting to rust and various plastic bits have fallen off now but all spares are availabl (but as is 350 new spending to much on spares doesn't make sense e.g 110 quid on a new deck bettter just get another mower etc). I prefer honda V briggs enginers as they seem to keep running better and use less fuel.... Before this I had an husky with a brigs and before that an izy that lasted decades (alu deck outlast the steel ones) Second hand looking from on ebay etc 90% seem over priced and also abit of a gamble as any replacement parts if sill available are so expensive V costs new? Ideal for you might be a rough cut with side disharge but they are more expensive.... Scag side discharge mower 48 inch cut 15hp Kawasaki tidy good tyres WWW.EBAY.CO.UK First used it is believed 2017 It has a 15hp Kawasaki recoil start 2 cylinder petrol engine hydrostatic dual drive, Sold as... Modern honda izy it appears they have downgraded both the quality and engine size but not the prices?
  10. Dunno i couldn't see it only the audio. Might need to use a different web browser.
  11. Think i metioned this before on another thread. I saw some garden design prog on the telly for a large posh garden. They bought in some big tree stumps on a flat bed lorry to make a stumpery. Think they paid over 100 quid for each large stump and had near a dozen or so stumps... Might be an idea to use up all the stumps.....if you did get them dug up, make to your own stumpery somewhere......
  12. Is ground going to used for something else that means all stumps have to be got rid?
  13. I grew them one yr in a polytunnel there was 100's on each plant they grow like crazy. This is talking over atm, it self seeds all over, its alot easier to grow than normal spinach as doesn't bolt. Tetragonia tetragonioides - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  14. How do you tell if it was assarting rather than planted or self seeded on the bank ? Coppiced trees can live alot longer than as maidens so its probably very old? Banks degrade/ collaspe over time need upkeep to maintain the original profile, in wales they have various styles and are called Cloddiau similar to the ones in the west country etc. https://www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/en/Council/Documents---Council/Strategies-and-policies/Environment-and-planning/Biodiversity/Habitat-Action-Plans/Cloddiau-HAP.pdf Also might be old grey squirrel damage barking on the syc?
  15. 500w seems abit low for a mower? Honda GCV160 is 3.3kw and still struggles sometimes if grass is abit long etc? Might have to cut lawns twice as often I guess?
  16. Cheapest carb is £38 I have the same saw but it doesn't run when hot
  17. Run timess stated look good esp for the larger battteries. Being dissapointed with my makita battery strimmer, it works fine but only runs15 mins at most with 2 5amp batteries. What size lecky motor is in that mower? I'd want to know that so I could have a rough idea of how much power it has V a petrol one? I'd think the self propelled will use batteries alot faster? Price of petrol atm getting more batteries stuff seems a good idea. Also no hassle with E5 E10 fuel etc.
  18. How about this design? Kon-Tiki Kiln - Open Source Ecology WIKI.OPENSOURCEECOLOGY.ORG Doesn't seem to be any for sale though..... https://www.terrapretadevelopments.com.au/products/kon-tiki-tas-deep-cone-kilns/kon-tiki-tas-compact-deep-cone-kiln/
  19. Unsure what the mystery is about the use of a well / natural spring? Mystery is in the stone steps design? Step wells are common in india. Guessing maybe some local rich bloke who had travelled there got the idea to tart it up at one time with the fancy steps? Or maybe a sheep dip but design looks wrong? SHEEP DIP 40 METRES SOUTH EAST OF CHURCH FARMHOUSE, Winterborne St. Martin - 1119181 | Historic England HISTORICENGLAND.ORG.UK List entry 1119181. Grade II Listed Building: Sheep Dip 40 Metres South East Of Church Farmhouse. May include...
  20. I have this mower and its being fine but doesn't bag unless you take the fabric bag off and clean it inside which is a hassle. Was thinking of getting a side discharge Any recommendations for a side discharge for under £500? I found this though it looked ok spec? Stiga Combi 53 SVQ H Petrol 51cm Self-Propelled Lawn Mower | Charlies WWW.CHARLIES.CO.UK
  21. They look like like fairly small trees, though its hard to tell the scale from thoose photos. First photo the image is blurry but from the leaf shape does look like a cherry covered in ivy? Third one is a cherry. Looks like the last photo is a leylandi and maybe the second one also. Why not leave the some of the cherries maybe crown raise etc, and remove or just cut any ivy off at base of trunks, and just get rid of the leylandis? Its also the right time of year to prune cherries with regards to avoiding silver leaf. In the third photo, is that red brick wall on left your house? Might need traffic management as roadside?
  22. Alot of places round here the local estates have apparently retained both the sporting rights and mineral ones to peoples otherwise private back gardens etc.
  23. Interesting that they are good for banks, as I always assumed they would need very lvl perfect lawns too avoid scalping as the cut height looks very low & isn't adjustable? Banks are often bumpy & rough due to rabbits always digging etc, but maybe there are some nice smooth contoured ones about. I see that other companies are still making there version of them.
  24. Some pictures would help.
