  2. I had a small tree nusery yrs ago similar amount of trees approx 1000 at most mostly oaks grown as a "hobby". In the end just gave them away hardly managed to sell many... Time taken to profit there was was no money in it. Was more of a good deed thing thinking some of thoose tree got planted and will be prospering etc. I think you have to be industrial sized to make any money as most tree nusery grow on a industrial scale with 100,000 of trees etc? How about carboots sales?
  3. Can't see shooting trapping greys doing much help longterm as they just move back from surrounding areas. Its like a bigger version of thoose seabird roost islands that have rats. The only way its to get every last one otherwise its a waste of effort .....back to square one...... Isle of wight greys are locally kept extinct etc. Like in Day of the triffids they stop any getting over...... As many other animals have being hunted to extinction historically is that not possible for greys with a one off big effort? A one-off large cost for longterm savings? Suppose it would be alot harder for a fast breeding numerous species than it was for others.... The NZ policy is: “Our ambition is that by 2050 every single part of New Zealand will be completely free of rats, stoats and possums,”
  4. £3000 plus for one tree? Pull the other one.....
  5. Re-introduce pine martens.....though they may evole to deal with them.... The lack of anti-predator behavioural response in the invasive grey squirrel to the native predator, the pine marten, may only be temporary. While prey species typically develop anti-predator responses through coevolution with predators, prey facing strong selection pressures can develop anti-predator behaviours within a single generation e.g. moose (Alces alces) developing hyper-vigilance in response to wolves (Canis lupus) [60], or within a few generations e.g. ring-tailed possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) responding to olfactory cues of alien red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) [19]. However, the development of effective anti-predator responses is not guaranteed, and many naive species have become extinct due to introduction of novel predators prior to the development of effective anti- predator responses [6,19]. Thus, the long-term lack of behavioural response observed in grey squirrels to pine marten remains equivocal. https://pinemarten.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Twining-et-al_2020.pdf
  6. Its just asexual. clonal vegetative propagation its what some plants do. Theres an aspen tree in the USA thats suppose to be the largest living plant on the world Pando (tree) - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG In 10,000 yrs maybe you will have a massive cherry forest. Yes But I wouldn't bother taking any futher action.
  7. Grey squirrel damage maybe combined with drought.

  11. Maybe get say a 20W electric desk fan they actually push enough air to work well. Think ALL the thermo ones are abit useless they just don't seem to push the air volume to have an impact....

    Chain grinder..

Depends abit on how blunt/damaged the chain is how much is needed to be removed to get it sharp but from the ones iv'e seen grinding often seem to take more than is needed. Also seems to be a common idea reduce all the teeth to to length of the shortest one which I think is abit unnescessary... Remember on one homeowners chainsaw had he had the chain done by a shop on a grinder. When i looked at it after I wasn''t convinced it was even the same chain still on on the saw, as it had, had so much material removed from what was a fairly new chain, that when it came back it looked a near half worn one.... Maybe some places/people/machines do very a good job grinding many others no so much.....
  16. Reserves of what? Surely rain is good for drought areas or will a second spring stress trees etc more?
  17. Alot of new theese new brands might not exist in 5 yrs time then if something breaks will have to be binned? Would only go for establised companies as more chance of getting spares and spares support longterm though its abit early to say how long all theese cordless motor products are built to l last V the petrol eqivalents longterm etc? Less to go wrong on electric motors so should keep going as long as you can get the spares?..... Bearings went on my cordless 18v makita trimmer & there was a full part list and all parts were available to buy. Though some compatible SKF ones were cheaper. Intersting styling though looks like a futursitic weapon
  18. Wonder if the the linesmen still carry a special mallet to tap the poles/test them for soundness? Probably it is abit more hi-tech now.... Anyhow normally the rot is at ground lvl rest of the pole is still decent.

    Chain grinder..

My observation is file does alot better job than a grinder if you are skilled at it. The grinder done chains look abit rough and less perfectly sharp in comparison from the ones iv'e seen.... Overheating while grinding can be avoided by using CBN wheels on grinder (expensive but probably worth it). I never sharpen chains out in field just carry 3 spare ones.
  20. Does remind me of thoose internets sites that promise "get rich quick by learn the secret buiness tips only the top the CEO's know" etc sign up now for our special intro package, It does seem a sector that attracts alot of snake oil....as its kind of nebelous its a perfect place for that kind of stuff to thrive.
  21. Same blower just has a different name in the USA
  22. Still don't get why spray as you will still need to strip the dead turf if replacing with something else??
  23. Think many often underestimate costs massively though and assume more profit on jobs than the reality. Im not sure many bother to actually think that deeply about costs/proft etc? If they do they probably think if you make more than £15 per hr profit they are overpaying you, as they class it as "low status" job.
  24. 1 acre isn't enough you would need at least 5 minimum I think to get enough wood to be self sufficient in firewood etc Good idea if you can afford 5 acres of mature woodland but prices are high. Many companies are buying up larger woods sub-dividing them into small parcels and reselling. Buying woodland 10ys ago was a very good investment probabaly still is but who knows what prices will do in future
  25. I have alot of the 18v makita stuff topper chainsaw drills strimmer hegde trimmer etc but haven't got a blower yet (I use a husky petrol blower )as the battery blower runtimes & blowing power was low V the petrol handheld ones. Seem blowing is something that eats batteries faster than some other types of battery tools. This was the model id get if i do go makita though: Makita DUB362Z Review: Makita 18V X2 Battery-Powered Blower Review XBU02 - Pro Tool Reviews WWW.PROTOOLREVIEWS.COM The Makita XBU02 18V X2 Cordless Blower is the brand's flagship model among its battery-powered offerings.
