  1. Yeah its a quality if now old design. Ive had the makita version of the same saw for well over a decade now and must of cross cut 100m3's of wood up for firewood with it over the yrs. Its had a few new sets of carbon brushes as its not a brushless motor, and a few other bits bur still going well. Doubt there any newer corded ones around that are the same quality. Stihl do a range but not for sale in the UK & are expensive for the bigger ones. Only change in design I can see is new ones have thoose tooless covers which i don't like.
  2. Shavey on here might have one think he collects dolmars
  3. BLUETTI AC300 + B300 + PV350 Solar Generator Kit BLUETTIPOWER.CO.UK 100% modular, accepts up to 4xB300. 2400W Unrivaled Solar Input. 3000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter. 5400W Blazing Input... Expensive
  4. A Daily Telegraph reading neigbour means I have an abundance of "free" paper thats burns well. As less people get newspapers theese days others might not have such a supply to hand.
  5. Sounds like you are gonna rent 15 extra and manage 5 acres yourself? The intended use of the 5 (livestock etc?) and what condition the hedges are in now will govern the ongoing management & equipment required / methods & if its better getting some contractors? Have the hedges being left to grow wild for decades atm or have they being managed & trimmed anually?
  6. Not sure about the blue plastic bits in the roof? Lathes are steam bent?
  7. Can anyone explain/expand on that graph data how it translates into the saws performance etc? Cuts cookies alot faster I assume?
  8. If there is a row of stumps its handy as you can winch one off the others but its best to have left them higher for that.

  10. Surely this depends alot on the users height and the adjustment of position you clip the harness on also? Stihl has a row of attachment points looks like husky there is only one clip on point?
  11. Looks like france? Extreme drought atm could be related somehow? Tree not an issue i reckon.
  12. Regnerative farming seems the current buzz word but its sounds just like old fashioned mixed farming.
  13. Thats a big conical frustum!

  15. Don't like the idea of treated wood next to veg beds but it seems to be the norm so maybe its not an issue?
  16. I think thoose fuji robin based makita 2 stroke ones were under £300 each awhile ago? I considered one but went for the 18v the battery makita instead and am happy with it Was thinking of trying the 4 stroke makita long reach also but vibration stats were high put me off it.... 17. I guessed that might of being the issue before you posted again. What mower did you get?
  18. Wonder if that means now they are made in china? Does anywhere in the UK still actually makes any agri/forestry hand tools axes etc? Some small blacksmiths still making billhooks etc but any larger scale makers left?
  19. Probably just some ancient yews dating back too before christ 😉
  20. Makes alot of interesting points. The timelines of if his future predictions of peasants going back to the land etc with regards to fossil fuels peak oil etc. Being a peasant farmer is very hard toil physically. Its not very healthly on the body to be spending long hrs doing the same repetitives manual tasks of hand weeding crops etc. I think he kind of glossed over that aspect. There is an idea that where humans went wrong was way earlier when agri was first invented. That hunter gathers had alot more free time and were healthier. Alot of predictions about the collaspe of the current conventional fossil fuel based society have being made for yrs but haven't yet materialized not yet anyways..... Wouldn't like to live without a chimney though wood smoke still is terrible cause of poor health in "3rd world" places a enclosed stove and a flue is a cheap worthwhile technology .
  21. Thought the old brands - ones like brades and gilpin etc that they don't make anymore were regarded as the best? Called them slashers with long handles Morris ones are still around but heard the new ones aren't of a very good quality, and the blade needs re profiling from new? The japanese make some nice billhooks (and hand tools generally) tempted with one for triming hazel rods. https://www.objectsofuse.com/products/garden/saya-nata-right-handed-hatchet Other german branded ones: Nordforest Bush Hook with a 40 cm Aluminium Handle WWW.CHRISFORESTRY.CO.UK This really useful Nordforest Bush Hook with its 40 cm aluminium handle is a great tool for tree nurseries. It has a... Sickle Bush Hook WWW.CHRISFORESTRY.CO.UK A particularly light and versatile design with an additional blade on the back edge. Comes fully sharpened and ready for use... Now the test of sharpness would be if it can trim a hedge like this:
  22. Cider or wine vinegar is alot nicer to use in pickles than the malt or pickling vinegar imo but its abit more expensive. Korean Kimchi is abit more trendy than kraut cabbage but basically the same i've nor tried fermenting methods only done pickles. Have a shit load of cucumbers atm keep meaning to do some more pickles feeding several cucumbers each day to the chickens. This time of year always have a glut in the garden always end up with way more than can eat corgettes going crazy all broadbeans and french climbing beans and peas have come ready at once etc.
  23. I am not surprised one looks dead after being dug up and the roots disturbed Im not sure clay soil being waterlogged /poor drainage was the problem but hard to say for sure without knowing how wet the ground was in winter. More likely being too dry is the issue atm but it maybe its both too wet in winter and now to too dry in summer. Trees that size need alot of watering a mulch to retain the water and any grass excluded for a few yrs until they get established.
  24. Bark looks more like pine or something?
  25. Dawgs attacking it 😄 Like this one 😏
