  3. Scale of burns like lithium in water to as flammable as a fire brick?
  4. The angled rakers from using the prog raker gauge one did seem to made a noticable difference after previously just doing then more flat Seemed to make it cut smoother & also and less grabby Was skeptical before I tried it. Could just do the same freehand though, but before I tried the gauge I never thought to angle the rakers as much...
  5. I didn't think the oregon type one was as good the last one. It files raker at a more of a slope also than the oregon does

    New cheapo saws

Vibrations high for a smalls saw ? Are decent springs expensive or is it something else with the engines that makes cheap saws have worse vibs?

  11. A progressive raker gauge files rakers lower as, as the chain teeth wear back the rakers need to be lower apparently. http://gepkolcsonzo.eu/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/complete-book.pdf Explained here.
  12. I think thats its abit of an overstated concern that it robs nitrogen from soil as it decomposes. Think that the the benefit would still outweigh any small negatives even if chip is fresh....? Also ramial chip is probably better due to the green brown ratio.... Problem with chip is you will ideally need tonnes and tonnes of the stuff and to replenish. Brown cardboard under the chip can help abit also. Anyone used hessian or bio plastic mulch mats they seem very expensive? Heard wool works quite well and there was a few farms here were giving it away for free as the price is so low....

    Chickens?

Also don't kill off the old hens either so they are like pets. Did experiment with lights on timmer as that controls laying but haven't bothered recently. It did seem to work but seems abit cruel into tricking then to laying more eggs. How To Use Artificial Light for Chickens In Winter POULTRYKEEPER.COM Egg production is linked to daylight hours. Artificial light for chickens during winter months can extend laying. Here's how...
  14. But...... With regards to tree spacing/ nurse crop - its once you get canopy closure/miro climate & shelter from wind and the grass is supressed is when trees really seem to increase there growth rate. So a denser planting/ nurse crop achives this quicker so gives faster establishing woodland...... Might be less of an issue on that site cheshire where there is probaby less wind than other most more exposed locations, and if grass in surpressed really well for several yrs round trees. Local estate has planted a few 1000's of broaddleaf mix all in tubes. Extra windage of tubes & probably not staked well enough/ also wet ground , has resulted after storm arwen etc in all the 1000's trees being at at 45% angle now...
  15. Could this revolutionary two-stroke mean a big comeback WWW.VISORDOWN.COM The two-stroke petrol engine could be about to see a big resurgence, thanks to an innovative new design that will see... ASK THE MXPERTS: A FUEL-INJECTED TWO-STROKE COMPLAINT - Motocross Action Magazine MOTOCROSSACTIONMAG.COM Fuel-injected motocross bikes are on the horizon and the reality of them could keep two-strokes alive in the future
  16. Read a few articles saying new tech to reduced emissions will mean 2 strokes have/or are making made a come back....?

    Chickens?

Yeah chicken food isn't cheap think prices of everything has gone up recently i think ( bedding and mixed corn /layers pellets... etc) more than the price shop bought free range eggs which probably hasn't changed much for decades? Sold eggs outside house for £1.30 half dozen probably isn't enough to cover cost of inputs.... Anyone ever done any rough calcs?

    Chickens?

Keep hens atm in a shed Not impresses with the design of the mobile houses iv'e seen with regards to ease of mucking out but like the idea. Think something with a whole floor that slides out or roof that hinges off up so could be cleaned easily would be a good design....
  19. Seems abit of a crazy combo a 15" would suit that saw best. Sounds like you are somewhere with alot of softwood?
  20. What are the services? Don't waste money on bigger trees imo, stuff like mulching & weed control makes more impact. Just get the basic bare root trees. Would also consider other not strictly locally native species such as sycamore, beech, scots pine, lime etc as think thoose "estate forestry type mixes" make attractive woodlands. Would group the tree planting into small blocks of same species and fade/mix the edges into the neigbouring areas of a block of a different species rather than randomly mix the planting. Then also have a few randoms dotted about, and extra things like cherry or wild pear.. How about some edible stuff apples cherries plums cobnuts etc closer to house etc? Esp on large size rootstocks apples pears etc make attractive trees for the fruits and blossom even if you don't pick/use any of it. Also wild pears crab apples etc I like a Sweet chesnut could plant some with possibility of coppice in future like if the soil/local climate is right. Dont get many that far north though? Also there is a diesease wiping SC out..... Hazels also maybe as shorter trees towards house side of the plot cast less shade.... Would be careful if planting sloe as dislike invasive blackthorn scrub suckering everywhere. Like birch nice attractive trees especially when planted in stands of a few dozen.
  21. Ok i reccommend: A japanese style tripod ladder the 2.4m one with 3 adjustable legs if any slopes Henchman 3 leg adjustable tripod ladder – FR Jones & Son WWW.FRJONESANDSON.CO.UK A large tarp A step up Draper 2 step aluminium working platform – FR Jones & Son WWW.FRJONESANDSON.CO.UK Builders bags (more the better.....) 22. Suppose it depends on what the acess either side is like and how much height and width they want trimmed off. Alot of unknown variables & there always it seems some pita factor that comes to light, not always at first apparent. What someone can do in a day claims are very often wildly inaccurate no offence to the OP.
