  2. Dunno if you have a decent compressor but heard that puematic ones are more durable.
  3. I know several people who have done just that. Many just like the idea of owning a woodland and its a very good investment as prices have shot up same as houses I get the impression that wether they then decide do any forestry or have much interest in the trees is probably not an important consideration to many.
  4. Iv'e seen probably more than 90% iv'e cut regen very sucessefully but I think many were downy birch which supposedely coppices better than silver birch. Most were alot larger trees than in the picture which supposedly reduces sucess rate. Cut a load for conservation management.
  5. Garden centre bought compost quality or rdm brands generally seems to have got alot worse over the last few yrs alot doesn't seem properly composted. Loads of relatively fresh looking woodchip & some plastic bits also in the Miracle Grow brand for example that i got this yr. Maybe something to do with peat free and the expense of the alternatives to peat that work best? Compost does make a big difference, as iv'e noticed before stuff was growing near twice the rate in some brand of compost versus the other. Also watering some composts its hard to keep the right moisture lvl think thats what peat was so good for.
  6. I still use an old rbc3101 makita stimmer thing wont die
  7. It wasn't about felling it was hitting a healthy oak tree with a sledge hammer to damage the bark at the base to promote rot cavaties etc
  8. Thats a birch not a pine If it was my garden i'd try coppicing (cut down at stump) it it might well die as unsure about how a tree than size and species responds But if it doesn't and regrows you'd get a multi stem tree like the hazel next to it .
  9. Countryfile fans rant about ‘Tree Killing’ segment UKDAILY.NEWS I understands the concept but it seems crazy imo..... Grey squirrels & storms damage trees enough already id think?
  10. Kawasaki engines on there pro models & own brand or kohler engines on the homeowner mowers? Seems alot less about of thoose 2 than the B&S ones.

    New saw help

A mains corded saw for firewood at home is good. Cheap to buy and cheap to run less noise & no fumes V petrol lasts for decades versus batteries that evetually degrade esp if crosscutting firwood alot as that would use up batteries rapidily thus alot of recharge cycles. I have a small battery saw never bother using it for firewood much apart from branches 3inch or less as the chain is smaller pitch thus less grabby Use petrol for the bigger diameter logs as faster.
  22. Euc frost resistance varies widely between species i think. Alder is another coppice possibily Osage orange would be a interesting one to grow and wood is suppose to be useful Maclura pomifera - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
