  1. Scientist finds UK water companies use 'magic' to find leaks WWW.BBC.CO.UK Engineers from the majority of the UK's water firms still use divining rods to locate pipes, it emerges.
  2. Dowsing - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG Interesting list of all the studies that have being done into it...non that really found it to work. Remember Welsh water sent a guy out he was dowsing to find our neigbours water pipe guy was 100% cofident it worked - then he failed completely. Odd that something so strange and unscientific with not known mechanism still has so many people who believe -ive not seem first hand anyone do it sucessfully - but know that many say they can etc.

  6. I reckon a coppiced hardwood like sycamore or ash beech at about 30yrs old is the ideal perfect firewood nice straight logs to process. Not that much of it about though? Hazel is good but abit small and takes ages to grow huge as once overstood its growth rate decreases alot. Would be Ideal along side other woods though as kindling though - with a branch logger etc say on a 15ys cycle....

  8. Ive had the same or related strain of fungi on my plums for several yrs but it seems alot worse this yr and I have noticed alot more of it about recently in other gardens also on plums. Cutting out all the infected growth is on larger plums trees where near 50% infected is near impossible Apples that have seen infected are only very mildly infected compared to the plums. I think some varieties are more resistant than others as the wild damson/bullace seem immune. I wonder if its weather related or theres a new more virulent strain about? Had if before and the trees recovered abit so then in yrs after it was less bad...but this yr its alot worse. https://www.niab.com/sites/default/files/imce_uploads/PressOffice/plum-best-practice-guide-blossom-wilt-brown-rot.pdf

  13. Better also be class 2 or 3 then? Class 1 wont stop say a ms261 well im guessing...... Class 2 or 3 might do abit better..... Also replaced every 30 washes according to SIP as washing & dirt supposedly knackers the fibres so second hand ones aren't ideal either.
  14. If you do get one go battery they are worth the extra as fumes from a hegde trimmer are worse than chainsaw as holding closer to face in often confined spaces. Also the waste removal is over half the job. Yes beware of the leylandi monstrosities that are 5m's across the top and waste will be 10 van loads.
  15. Won't be easy ir cheap to do it properly Money no object with the right machines its probably its possible Root ball gonna weight abit will need to be the size in pic above etc or bigger for a 40yrs old tree - also wrong time of yrs isn't gonna help chances of sucess much. 23. Water shoots can be thinned out in summer but easier to see whats in winter as the mass of leaves makes it harder to see the underlying framework of branches. But summer prunning also helps surpress vigour so u get less new water shoots Either way will work imo but im no expert. https://www.rhs.org.uk/fruit/apples/managing-watershoots
