  2. Was just thinking of trying the same on all the bare earth on the veg plots between plants. Probabably should of done it already Never can remember another yr like this one without any rain for over a month now and still none forcast... Bet alot tree saplings planted on schemes eariler this yr are gonna be toast and the apples & fruit will be dropping of trees etc.
  3. With regards to any coppices material if its hazel may have some added value over firewood but only if its being kept in rotation otherwise im guessing might be hard to cover costs of the initial restoring - if its a neglected coppice from the first cut....? More value in any standards but any coppice craft products will only be decent quality with less than about 20% canaopy cover and after its has being restocked to density if over shaded so a long term project.....
  4. Wrong time of yr will be plenty of free acorns lying about in the autum.
  5. When cutting stems on ground standing straight up with a long bar won't it be hard to avoid dirt with the chain as you cutting logs with bar tip is held at a 45 degree angle I normally crouch down so bar is cutting more lvl with ground then flip logs over for that last bit. But recall seeing yanks on youtube who use say 24" - 30" bars or whatever ringing up pretty small diameter stems on the grounnd with the tip of long bar and not flipping logs but they probably had a brash mat underneath.
  6. May as well cut the stem yourside at the base imo as it would look more tidy. I think you can legally cut all but not 100% sure.....? Saw a "funny" pic online somewhere where a whole of large diameter tree trunk had being cut down the middle removing about 1/3 of whole encroaching trunk from the base to he bottom of the crown, to fit a newly erected fence. Was cut like this apart from the tree was more vertical so still had a half a top As was not ring barked so chance the tree could possibly still survive yrs as a hollow tree.... veteranisation.....? But in your tree its two seperate trunks right at ground lvl so it won't be so crazy as literally slicing in half a maiden tree trunk down the middle
  7. Looks good but shouldn't outdoor deck boards have gaps to drain water just as it might then dry and last longer? Suppose might not looks as nice with gaps....
  8. Heres some case studies & infos about meadow restoration projects & methods. http://www.magnificentmeadows.org.uk/assets/uploads/CM_Restoration_Workshop_-_Liverpool_2016.pdf http://www.magnificentmeadows.org.uk/assets/pdfs/Creating_bare_ground_for_meadow_restoration_-_examples.pdf Quite alot of time effort and machinary & grant/ charity money involved making meadows.
  9. Zannon an italian company do smaller engined similar style one for 5000 euro & the Same engine on a chipper is 6000 euro Made in italy supposedly
  10. Fancy a try of this new rotary engine machine....^ Im not convinced sharpening mower blades is that critical as didn't notice a new blade making a huge difference to the cut. Must get round to doing the strimmer ones. Have the smaller ( in thickness and sized) 2 tooth oregon mulch blade. The bigger ones are alot heavier. Maybe the 3 tooth ones are kinder to the machines than 2 tooth? How do you balance blades when sharpening any fancy jig etc? Seen some expensive looking wall mounted thing for it....
  11. Spec chart https://www.stihlusa.com/WebContent/CMSFileLibrary/downloads/Chain-Saw-Comparison-Chart.pdf Numbering system kind of explained? Stihl Chainsaw Model Names Decoded – workshoppist.com WORKSHOPPIST.COM
  12. Im guessing 70cc class as its half way between. And something new enough that spares are still around. Or maybe 60cc
  13. So a similar scheme until 1960's seem to have increased houses being built. But this time round they are saying a new version would reduce the new houses built.

  15. At least 3 weeks with no rain and non forcast quite rare for May? (North Wales)
  16. Think ive seen a few ones about that size on estate parkland Some very big ones about: Sycamore Maples (Acer pseudoplatanus) in the United Kingdom WWW.MONUMENTALTREES.COM
  17. Some of that wood looks abit rotten i reckon esp this one: It would be annoying to be paying for half rotten logs as they have lost some of the firewoods calorific value. Wouldn't worry about what beetle lives in them as it won't harm live trees.
  18. Ladys smock / cuckoo flower seems a fairly common flower in pastures. See alot of if about My mini "meadow" or wilderness that has zero proper meadow managament (as not being cut for yrs) is mostly meadow sweet common knapweed oxeye daisy & Wild Angelica and now the odd self seeding oak saplings. Used to be used for sheep and hay. Think its hard to turn improved grassland back in to meadow fast as takes a few yrs to lower fertility etc. Saw/read about someone going to the hassle of stripping turfs to make a meadow and thus removing top soil to reduce fertility. Where i have not mowed in the garden lawn as there was daffs growing is all full of red campion & cow parsley atm. The wild look its on trend at chelsea flower show 😏
  19. Kuwait oil wells burning?
  20. Neigbour has being mulch mowing 5 acres of paddocks (least twice a week at this time of yr) for decades with a tractor - its like a golf course green. Hes decided to let the next door farmer use it for hay this year. Think some people must enjoy mowing alot.
  21. Just had a swarm of honey bees airbourne in the garden. Pretty impressive sight never seen anything like it before Seemed about a 30m2 area of dense flying very noisy bees didn't fancy walking right into the middle denser parts of it. Now they all have buzzed off somewhere
  22. No idea nice patterns though Tree looks half dead
  23. Whitebeam
  24. Yeah that can happen theres knack to it not happening - using the dawgs and blipping the throttle in a certain way etc. Ive found it only normally sometimes an issue with smaller diameter logs under 4inch. A narrow kerf chain and rakers not to agressive makes a less grabby chain & makes a big difference. Or just stick a bigger log on top of all the smaller ones.
  25. Don't think you'll get much for that .
