  1. The road on the seafront at Meadfoot beach torquay has suitable laybys , have seen vans overnight there before , right next to road though , but not really busy at night , East facing so if weather is good you could wake up to a sunrise over the sea looking towards Thatcher Rock ... also some other roads very nearby may be suitable , one spot overlooking Hopes Nose is parked on all night by fishermen ..... nearest toilets are at Meadfoot Beach though ... Another nice spot about 1hours drive away is South Hallsands beach ... again great spot but no facilities at all , also east facing for sunrise ...
  2. I do not think Vesp would pass the IQ section on wildlife and geography !!!! Tigers are not found in Africa !! ( except in zoos )
  3. I think the facts speak for themselves https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/12/too-many-gypsies-travellers-prison-education
  4. Spent all day in the sea yesterday and was still too warm ...usually pleasantly fresh this time of year , lovely clear ,calm water though ....sadly working for 3 whole days in a row before getting back in the water ...happy days ...
  5. I had a trip to Snowdonia on my motorbike last weekend , and saw Chalara all over the place it is in Devon as well , on one recent trip across Exmoor there were entire woodlands dead from spruce bark beetle , probably we are the only ones who notice such things !! The Welsh will probably blame English Tory Scum !!! I blame cyclists holding up traffic and increasing pollution ? , however the speed limit on motorways in wales has been reduced to 50 mph now ( to raise funds from speeding fines to pay for cycle paths )
  6. If he was acting as "self employed " what could he use to offset against tax ?? it was the companies van ,tools, advertising etc etc ...
  7. You will also need to watch your total hours , especially in one day ...ie lets say you drive for 1 hr in the morning , work all day with the machine and then do a long drive home ( from Scotland ) you could easily fall foul of the rules , working time directive esp ...
  8. Had a bad day ??????????
  9. Will this be yet another case of supposedly clever , highly paid people introducing a badly thought out badly worded piece of legislation , open to mis-interpretation ?? Only time I think it will be used is by complaining neighbours !
  10. I had a Goshawk nesting on land I bought ..... read this.... 400 metre !!!!!!!! exclusion zone during nest building ( for Forestry operations )...https://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/RIN267.pdf/$FILE/RIN267.pdf
  11. A guy in my area recently has been in court for collecting eggs from rare birds , including Osprey , Golden Eagle and ended up with a suspended sentence and a nightime curfew during the nesting season .... this is about as serious an offence possible so the probability of getting in bother for doing the job described above is extremely unlikely
  12. I have some remarkably similar pictures ....
  13. why not make your own storage boxes ? ...simple enough and you could make them to your own specifications ..
  14. It will not lose it's resin, it will dry ....it will lose it's water the same as any other wood , if fresh cut this time of the year then the next few months, especially May and June will probably see rapid moisture loss , however it does not move very much whilst drying ....are you milling it ?
  15. Libtards will proclaim it is ethnic cleansing !!!
  16. I am assuming you mean Chusan palm ......it is not really a "wood" but grass , however look up Dewey Garret an American turner who makes some interesting things with it , sandblasted to highlight the structure of the material ......
  17. if he has been charging more than you ( and selling it ) then you appear to have been under priced !!
  18. this is the big problem with tree work ....the overheads ... most firms charge say £ 200 -£300 per man day +vat which seems a lot of money for a 3 man team to do some basic tree work , which a lot of it is ....simple felling , hedge topping trimming chipping etc . Where as a plumber , plasterer etc have far lower overheads as part of their man day rate and probably do not have endless bloody "tickets " to obtain just to do their job so as a consequence will keep more of what they charge ...
  19. another possibility is that he was Sergei Skripal !!!
  20. Has Vespasian been abducted ?? .....not posted for a while ...
  21. When you consider just how much wood a sawchain will cut in its servicable life and the money it should be making you as it is your main tool , then why does any one try to save a couple of quid ? I buy the best regardless of cost , and in the grand scheme of things of daily overheads it is too small an expense to bother thinking about ....
  22. "ring bark " with a blowlamp !! thin barked trees like Beech will be fairly easy to do this too , it will boil the sap just under the bark and destroy the cambium layer and not leave too visible a trace as there is no need to burn long enough to "char" the bark .
  23. What is soap ?....
  24. Welcome to Devon Big J !! I have recently seen a job that some horse loggers have done that your machine would have been far better and far, far , more productive than .... I can see potential for more than just tree jobs with that bit of kit ...
