  1. By law that dumpy bag should have a net over it and ratchet straps , to stop spillage from bag esp during manouvres , eg roundabout or having to swerve . also restrained by strap to prevent load shifting eg during braking , comes under insecure load which VOSA have a purge on at times .....we all remember seeing dumpy bags of sand etc unrestrained on flat bed artic trailers but not now !!
  2. also the wood colour is not something we can use to ID rare trees as we rarely cut them !! my thought are possibly pterocarya sp but seeds / flowers etc would prove / disprove this . Interesting though ....
  3. Was there any seed / fruits on or around the tree to help identify it ? .. I am in S Devon as well ( Newton Abbot ) and would be interested in a few bits of wood .....
  4. looking even more SEXY than usual !!!
  5. a self portrait by the invisible man would be even more special ...perhaps you could get a grant from the Art Council ...
  6. This seasons fashion for log stores is "Lord of the rings" ... Asymmetric Gothic Arch style !!!! ....Couple of branches of bone Oak , carefully selected for shape and the rest is tanalsied from MVF . I just wanted something a bit more attractive in the back garden than a square box , I keep most of my logs in my woods , this is just my at home supply of a few weeks , will double as a bower seat or for a large potted plant in summer ....

    7.5tonner

I am very doubtful that it is easy to just declare a vehicle as "agri " spec ...also you are not using it for agriculture ......Arb and Forestry are quite different ! definitely so as far as red diesel is concerned !!!
  8. Ha Ha , I have never heard it called "bubbly Ash" .....it is canker , it will create weakness in stems and failure is quite common , I turn quite a lot of wood and the pic shows a bowl 13-14 inch dia made from cankered Ash ...
  9. Lucombe Oaks are quite common in my area (S Devon) Lucombes nursery who invented them is near Exeter ...some pretty big ones as well !
  10. I often pick up gorse driftwood when at the coast , it took a while until i knew what it was as it was just a stick with no bark , one of my favourite bits pictured below !
  11. gorse ??
  12. I drive a lorry part time and the main pallet network we deliver for is FORTEC and believe it or not I sometimes deliver dumpy bags of logs that originated in the Lake District to S Devon , also deliver kindling and net sacks of logs to Mole valley farmers regularly ....so try a pallet network there are plenty of them !! Keep the pallets under 1 ton and the goods not overhang / exceed the dimensions of the standard pallet .
  13. many such lumps occur due to the practice of "flush cutting " which was done in pre Shigo days ...and in some areas for quite a while after as well !!!! particularly on less decay resistant species ...Sycamore , and Ash especially ...
  14. I had not thought about how long spores may remain viable , thanks for the answers / opinions , it was just a random thought !!
  15. In theory if all Ash trees have died and been removed ( within a very large area / nationally / europe wide ) will the disease / fungi survive for any length of time ? could an area then be safe to be restocked ?
  16. An HGV driver I know works for an Agency and it appears he can not work for more than 13 weeks continuously at one company ( or is regarded as employed ) so has time off / or gets sent to another company for at least one week , then can start 13 weeks again ....it is with a large depot so they always seem to need a number of agency drivers ...
  17. So if you are a man, who is attracted to women ,are you really a lesbian trapped in a mans body ?
  18. Perhaps this sums it up !!!!!!http://www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2017-10-30/bus-companys-website-says-it-has-closed-after-message-from-owner/
  19. old sump oil mixed with red diesel helped a larch slab shed I built last a long time
  20. To increase the longevity of your posts where they go in to the ground dump some salt around them each year to keep the soil "hostile " to wood decaying / boring organisms .
  21. Look at the trees in the verges on the A30 from Exeter to Okehampton , lots of it ...
  22. medlar is my first thought
  23. It all depends how much you want the wood !! do you have a use for it yourself ? or are you planning to mill/process and sell on ? I would of thought the owners would consider £50 derisory as I suspect they consider them valuable and can see more value in them than £50 for firewood !! Also if you are after Yew wood when will the next opportunity to obtain such lumps come along ?...
  24. If any one is stopped for delivering wet wood , then you can say I am not selling it , the wood is free ......I just charge for cutting splitting and delivery !!!!!
  25. I would imagine Ash die back will flood the market in the near future ....but only temporarily though , then wood will go up in price quite a lot .
