  1. Many thanks , do you end up in disputes with ton versus cubic metre , as mostly I will work on volume and only want them to collect when it is raining !!!?
  2. thanks for the offer of help Big J , but it is only a couple of hundred trees so not worth you coming this way for half a days work ?..... just wanted to know rough value and specs , min top dia and length etc etc ...
  3. Just enquiring as to value of Douglas fir timber , may have quite a few to come down about 25- 30 metres tall , variety of diameters , what would be ideal length and min dia and rough price if stacked for collection by lorry ?
  4. unibond
  5. The law states that it is illegal to "recklessly or intentionally " destroy or disturb birds and their nests , sadly it seems some people take the view that they are absolutely sacred , and as others have said above people try to use wildlife and other concerns as a weapon against others ( nimby versus developer for example ) if there is no evidence of an offence then I can not see any case to answer ....has anyone ever heard of a prosecution for such an offence ??
  6. Pretty much as above ........how would you wash most things ? mild soapy water ( baby shampoo ) sponge and soft brush , I washed a load of Betula utilis ( and a naked statue !! )a few years ago and they looked fantastic against the recently trimmed Leylandii hedge behind them !!
  7. I am concerned that the trains will be going too fast for trainspotters to see the name / number on it !!
  8. at the moment it is too foggy to see what the weather is like !!!
  9. I wasn't far out then !! not at all jealous you b$&^(*d ?
  10. some fantastic looking lumps there .....where are you ...Scotland ?
  11. Apparently birthdays are good for your health ......... a leading group of scientists have gathered statistics to prove that those who have the most birthdays live longer !
  12. NO ....I am a diver ( hobby ! )
  13. I nearly always have black pudding with Scallops , and mushy peas .....
  14. I drive HGVs and have been reliably informed that it can tell the maximum weight for each axle for the vehicle from the no plate , and use this to calculate how many immigrants are on board ?
  15. Equally strange is you mention Newton Abbot and I live there !! and we have never met ...spoooooky !!!
  16. this is a similar story that some one I know told me ......even if your dog is on a lead it is not necessarily "under control " also it is under YOUR control , therefore you are liable ... the case I heard was of clothing being damaged ....personally I would tell the police to keep the dog and just get another one !!!!?
  17. If you consider the offer low then why not pay a contractor to fell and extract the wood and sell it yourself ?
  18. Or we could eat the lamb ourselves and not import danish pork !
  19. I doubt it would be possible to cut overstood hazel coppice for firewood at an economic rate !!!! .... also regrowth is prime deer fodder so will need fencing . I drive a lorry part time and quite often shift thatching supplies ( i did today actually .. to Sparkford ) and ALL of the products are foreign !! wire mesh .. China , Thatch reed ...Hungarian ...hazel spars split pointed and twisted from Poland .... cost of labour plus other costs make it too costly to compete !
  20. This one made me laugh , and it is tree related .... also GERMAN humour !!
  21. By law that dumpy bag should have a net over it and ratchet straps , to stop spillage from bag esp during manouvres , eg roundabout or having to swerve . also restrained by strap to prevent load shifting eg during braking , comes under insecure load which VOSA have a purge on at times .....we all remember seeing dumpy bags of sand etc unrestrained on flat bed artic trailers but not now !!
  22. also the wood colour is not something we can use to ID rare trees as we rarely cut them !! my thought are possibly pterocarya sp but seeds / flowers etc would prove / disprove this . Interesting though ....
  23. Was there any seed / fruits on or around the tree to help identify it ? .. I am in S Devon as well ( Newton Abbot ) and would be interested in a few bits of wood .....
