  1. I use wet and dry abrasive. The grade depends on how much %hite is on it. Work your way through to fine grade and keep a nice wet slurry going. On flat surfaces use a block.
  2. From the house owner's perspective and given that I was bricking that the trees would blow down I'd snap your hand off at £500 notes. Perhaps best to agree the price before you finish the job though.
  3. I don't do any of that stuff myself. Nonetheless interesting and looking forward to a bit more info when you can. Managing 6,500 acres sounds like a great job. Must keep you busy?
  4. Wow, that's a lot of effort to split 3 logs. I think they might need to rethink the promo.
  5. Grey and rainy/bit of sleet here in Nottingham
  6. Snowing heavily here in the East Mids. Good excuse to sit in front of the fire and have a dram or two
  7. Genius! I could be the hoarder type -if my wife let me have free rein :001_rolleyes:
  8. Leave the ash to build up, burn large lumps of well seasoned hardwood and close down the dampers. No great mystery to it.
  9. Another vote for the flat top stove. Think stews, pot roasts, kettle, plate warming etc. Come to think of it I might even get rid of the Mrs's electric iron and get her one of those that you heat up on the stove
  10. I bought replacement firebricks from the builders merchant. £2 each, Arada Stoves wanted £7 each plus postage
  11. Best way M8. Let them think they are....far less hassle
  12. timbernut Very sad but you're doing the right thing for her. Feeling for you M8.
  13. Stubby That looks so good! Let my stove go out this morning. Far too warm today in the sunny East Midlands
  14. Well done, really chuffed for you and your family
  15. Now keep up at the back please. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/79783-there-hope-us-all.html Mind it's worth a second play
  16. If Carlsberg did Log Stores then.......... Top marks M8
  17. Mick If not, knock 'em on the head with a maul. Works for me
  18. You're doing well. I've given up trying to explain to my Mrs that tightly screwing up newspaper is not the best way to get kindling going. Anyhow, burning mainly ash, sycamore and cherry. A mix of arisings either bought green and lumpy off Arbtrade brethren or scrounged in return for cutting up and taking away.
  19. Stewie If you fancy a drive over to Nottingham sometime towards the end of the year when you've got a load of h/wood arisings to get shot off pop me a pm.
