I think its the shops problem.....but probably best to see how the manufacturer responds. Presumably these come with a guarantee. If the response is unsatisfactory and the shop still refuses to exchange/refund then straight down to trading standards etc
  9. Primary school recall from the smell of Jeyes Fluid - it was used to swill out the outside bogs.
  10. Wow, stunning island and a what harbour. Do they do 'Escape the World Cup' vacations?
  11. I do try and do the odd good deed. One that has relevance to this forum. Driving along see some big conifer lumps in a driveway. Stop and ask if they are for the tip etc. No, a local gardener drops off bits and pieces for firewood but these are too big and bloke only has a rusty bow saw and hatchet. I offer to cut them up for him and do so next day and decline his kind offer of 50/50. Some 4 months later I get a call out the blue, same guy is moving house and he offers me his wood pile (about a cube) and passes his gardener contact to me.
  12. The forward sloping roof and the deep plinth around it means that 25% of the potential space is lost. Or am I missing something
  13.

  14. Lounge stove back on tonight. Here in the E Mids the NW wind is chilly and the house feels damp after rain over the last 2 days. Roll on summer
  15. Did your plumber come on his horse by any chance? They do like showing off their pipework given half a chance
  16. Ouch! Those Harmony stoves have moved up in price. I bought mine in 2004 for £1k, stuck in the back of my Saab estate (somewhat down on the springs) and installed it in a barn in France and made winter breaks very comfortable.
  17. Thanks for a comprehensive post. At some stage the 'through' room will be extended outwards so they will take that into account when sizing. They also plan to install a stove in their lounge. Your advice re choosing a stove that they like sounds good to me. I've bought/installed 4 radiating wood burners in 2 houses and only changed out one cheapo Godin for a Euroheat Harmony 1 (love that one) Getting the sizing right for the space is I think more critical than whether the stove is a convector or not.
  18. My lad is being advised to have a 'convector type' stove (make/size not yet know) installed in a through room (3m/1.5M) with solid brick hearth/stone mantel. This room links on one side to a downstairs hall way and on the other side through to a kitchen. The idea is that the stove principally heats the through room but also 'spills' to the kitchen and the hallway Is there any real difference as all stoves radiate and convect? Is it marketing guff or something that needs consideration? . Really interested to know what you pro's think. Thanks.
  19. Ty, if you're held up at Border Control next time you travel you'll know why

That's not too bad if it fits with other work and you can still do the voluntary crew stuff?. Also I imagine the RNLI are s5it hot on training etc? If you're comfortable with it,then do it.

"My name is head of the list to be a div tech..." I wouldn't like to be called a div but what's in a title Seriously, isn't £25k a bit on the skinny side of life for that responsibility etc ?
  23. This guy might be useful Dan Brookes at Stihl and Hayter Spare Parts and Servicing - Mower Clutch Repair for Hayter stuff. He has a stock of 'stripped' and new parts.
  24. I try to do most with the maul - every time I bring it down hard I think of my dear wife......and how cosy she'll be in the winter with the stove burning
