  1. How's about a peace offering? A £5 garden voucher should do the trick
  2. Jon They are a good stove. I understand your point re long life. No pressed steel baffles that burn through/distort over a couple of seasons. Mine will see me out, no doubt of that.
  3. John I've got a Euroheat Harmony 3 stove in a French stone barn. Burns oak. I've had it 10 years now -never been a problem. Goes through the night. Big, solid, cast iron. It does the job very well.
  4. I see your lad already appreciates some of the better things in life. I'm sure he'll go far
  5. Jon Its an Leborgne 2.5kg. Nothing special and a couple of plain ordinary wedges. Green oak splits nicely. Chain saw for the horrible bits. In the forest we cut to 1 metre, split it and stack to 1 metre high.
  6. Done a lot of splitting over in France - all by hand. Big heavy maul and wedges will do it.
  7. Scattering my parents ashes in the Bay of Trieste. Mum was from Trieste and Dad fought in Africa and then up through Italy. At the end of the war he was stationed in Trieste waiting demob and you can guess the rest. Their wish was to be scattered together in the sea off Trieste Just back this am. An emotional trip.......

    VE Day

Very mixed emotions over the VE weekend. My father did his bit in Africa and Italy and lost a fair few of his pals on the way. At the end of the war Dad was stationed in Trieste keeping Tito's Yugoslav mob away, and it's where he met my mother. The timing is all the more poignant because I am off to Italy next week to scatter their ashes in the Bay of Trieste. We must never forget the sacrifices made by so many, so that we can enjoy freedom and democracy.
  9. GK Thanks for the part no/pricing. I had hoped the deck for the 'push' version might be cheaper. I'll pass for now and try strapping it with a bit of thin stainless/aluminium. See if it lasts awhile.
  10. Hi GK Thanks for the advice etc. I hope to do the swop out of the deck myself. The model /serial number of the mower is HRB425C QDE, MZCF 8141354. It is a push mower with the rear roller. I would appreciate an accurate price. Thanks
  11. Hi guys I need a new plastic deck for a Honda HRB 425C. Any recommendations?? Thanks
  12. Yep, that pilot's got nuts - looked so close to the hoarding and building next to the pool

    Pallets

Some thoughts. Tour around the local industrial estates there are always piles of pallets - just ask. Gumtree free stuff also a maybe. Builders merchants.
  14. Guess the Stihls are still out there working somewhere
  15. Congratulations to you all.
  16. Brings back memories of a few of the local rugby clubs I played at.......many years ago.

Good to hear you are well and keeping up the good work! I'd read about the Morganstar tragedy. Any ideas on why she floundered? From the pictures I saw she looked a well-found vessel.
  18. Fair points. I'm sure the couple are saddened and there should be apologies/restitution which are being offered. However, I don't think either the Housing Association or the Contractor phoned up the Daily Wail
  19. French friends cut oak for firewood from managed woodlands. They say it's no good unless it's seasoned for at least 2 years. It's split, stacked and left totally unprotected for the first year. The weathering does 2 things - the wood starts to twist and open up and the rain washes out the tannin in the oak. Both apparently essential for a good burn. Yr 2 top of stack covered over and then moved later on into the woodshed. Voila, c'est simple
