  1. Quick question, Can you do a maintenance and cross cut and small fell assessment with a battery saw?
  2. Found my cougar blue to run through better than my tachyon but that may have been because it was brand new. But I like it
  3. I have a friend who is doing her chainsaw course next week. She was offered the place on it at short notice and is in need of a few bits of kit. I’m helping her out with some of it but I don’t have Tiny feet so don’t have any boots I can lend her. She may have to buy a new pair but I thought I’d just ask on the off chance that anyone has a pair of size 4 or 5 boots they were willing to sell. Her course starts on Monday so would be happy to pay for postage or can collect if anywhere between Wiltshire and South Wales Thanks Will
  4. You’re right but the canal doesn’t go up and over a hill here ( I think) it drops from the high ground at Devises down to low ground towards Bristol, the canal could have gone through Marlborough which would have been a more sensible route but from what I remember on the information boards, the engineer who built it wanted to pass through devises.
  5. Saw these on a walk in the woods yesterday after the arbshow, both on deadwood, I think poplar but not sure.
  6. I’m nearly fat! I thought I was skinny!
  7. Ah, mine have all got to be thrown in and out by hand sadly.
  8. I’ve just put this polytunnel up. Yet to fill it with logs. I’m hoping that cutting the bottom 2 feet of plastic sheet on both sides and leaving the ends open will give me a good balance between being heated by the sun and airlflow.
  9. If I could only burn one it would be sycamore but as long as it’s dry any will burn. As some one once told me ‘ the only tree that won’t burn is a lavatory ( lava-Tree) ‘ Will someone please post the fire wood song. Thus will tell mr burn all he needs to know[emoji106]
  10. Dead oak on a nature reserve we walked past this evening. My seven year old said ‘ is that Tree haunted?’ I said ‘no, just dead’
  11. Nice shed! As for your neighbor, just shit in a paper bag, light it, stick it through the letterbox and call it quits, I’ve had neighbors like that and that’s the least he deserves
  12. Hornbeam reduction in the rain. Started it yesterday finished today.
  13. You can recycle wood shavings in your green bin, on your compost heap, or lose it in the garden somewhere, no less recyclable than brown paper

  15. Singapore? I thought have having to go to Swindon to dump wood chips wAs bad enough[emoji23]
  16. Good idea rob. Note on the box to say open outdoors, what it is packed in and why, I can’t see anyone complaining
  17. Massive sycamore on the site we were working on today.
  18. Good point mark, I’ll put it on eBay later!
  19. That’s great if you can find someone who wants to buy the odd bit of sawn timber. When ever I have tried to sell timber I have milled nobody wants it. The would rather buy kiln dried timber from a bigger supplier anybody interested in 4, 8 x 2 x 2inch thick yew boards, before I log it?
  20. I did similar a few years ago. I was on £95 a day employed and went self employed and stayed working for the same firm on £130 a day. So what you want is not unreasonable tis carried on for nearly 12 months until I had enough work of my own to leave completely.
  21. That’s great! Saw my first red squirrel for years on Anglesey last month, I used to see them in the Lake District when I was at Newton Rigg. Are there still so many about up there?
  22. May be coast redwood, I cut one down a few weeks ago, looks very similar
  23. Bog standard eyes and nose face in an acacia branch
  24. I dropped a transit tipper load of horse chestnut to a friend this time last year. He cut and split it himself. Asked him last week if he wanted another load and he said yes it was great fire wood. It has a bad reputation for some reason, I think it just needs to be properly seasoned
