  1. Does any one in the Berkshire/ Wiltshire area have a small log splitter that they hire out? I've had a customer ask me if I do but I haven't got one.
  2. Carters hitch/ dolly knot, A good knot for pulling trees over, tying down loads or mid line for dragging things with the truck. A lot of people cannot tie it tho
  3. Special climbing wellies! To the op - If you work hard, drag brash quicker than anyone else, do more than is expected of you then your boss will notice you and should be happy to let you have a go at climbing some of the easier trees if you keep nagging at him. To many times I have seen newly qualified climbers moaning that they aren't given a chance to climb more whilst not putting the effort in.
  4. This one dragged brush for about 5 minutes before he got bored but we finished the job early so I let him have a quick climb
  5. Found a dead fox on a site once. Fed it through the timberwolf, the smell blew over to the tree my mate was climbing and he was nearly sick! Never laughed so much! He had the last laugh tho as I had to clean it off the drawbar before my boss saw it
  6. Worst site I've been on was doing a large poplar dismantle in the garden of a large posh new house. When we got to the job the garden was covered in snow. The lady said she was going to pick up the dog mess before we got there in the morning but couldn't as there was 3 inches or so of snow on the ground. We said 'not to worry' and thought we might only find one or two frozen ones. She had two black labs and they must've been sh****g out there for a week. We had two climbers up and a rigging rope which got covered and four groundies walking around dragging brush through piles of it in the melting snow. It got everywhere
  7. Good on you Kev! My 6 year old started playing rugby last year and loves it, keep toying with the idea of playing again, though 20 years since I did
  8. Hi rob, bit off topic but I bought a 36 inch maya chain from you a while ago. You sent me an email asking for feedback and I'd only used it once but now I've used it, sharpened it and used it again I'd like to say I was impressed. Sharp from the off, easy to sharpen teeth all seemed equal ( unlike other cheap chain I've had) kept its edge and not too much stretch. For the price, better than oregon
  9. 372 xp hands down. I miss mine
  10. I want a laser pen that I can reduce trees and trim hedges with whilst drinking a cup of tea!
  11. Heavier climbers are stronger, can cut and hold bigger bits but can't get out on the branch so far, lighter climbers can get out further on a branch and hold smaller branches. Me? I am getting old and fat so I try and rig more now
  12. Maybe it's the only way to keep their industry afloat? Sorry Will
  13. Hire myself out with tipper and chipper for £250 a day to other firms. With two of us it's £400. Better than just climbing for someone for £150 a day and having the van and chipper sat in the yard. Had to use my double cab to chip into for a couple weeks during the summer when my transit was off the road. Even ramming it full with high sides it takes a tiny tiny amount of chip. 5 times less? Not good for normal tree work

  15. I always suggest a small crown lift when a customer asks for a reduction. It'll let more light in i tell 'em Customer chuffed with this one I did on Wednesday.
  16. Ha ha! I've burnt it in a wood burner before. Burns with a nice flame to begin with but burns real quick and from what I can remember leaves a lot of ash
  17. I sent a flat file up to a climber once and he sat in the tree and took down his depth gauges
  18. It means the blade is guaranteed to last my lifetime, if it wears out before I die they will replace them
  19. That looks sore Stefan! I broke mine 6 years ago it healed up bent, then 3 months ago broke it again and it's still giving me jip
  20. Schumac tree? Sap causes blisters I think?
  21. It was growing on the outside edge of a group of trees and was leaning away
  22. The stump of a once leaning WRC
  23. From a tee shirt design point of view tho, mine always come untucked from my trousers leaving me with a cold draught around my middle, especially when climbing. Could you design and make a tee shirt similar to a baby's vest that do up with poppers underneath your bum? I would actually buy this!
  24. Polo neck tee shirt in the summer with 3 year old stein jacket if it rains. In the winter two tee shirts, fleece and old stein jacket if it rains. If it's really cold then as many tee shirts and fleeces as I need. ( these then get taken off left on nearest tree/fence/ garden chair and then subsequently forgotten! Note to self - buy new jacket!
  25. Maybe I should cut out some props to prop it back up again then!
