  1. Don't your forearms ache? When I went back to a prussik after using a zig zag mine ached like mad, now I'm back on the zig they are fine again? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. I had one! Bought it on eBay couple years ago just because it was local, you are right, very little vibration but the power to weight ratio is not great. Gave it to my dad last Xmas, but have come home this weekend so I'll take some pictures of it tomorrow and post them. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. It's meant to be Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  4. My Stihl 150 seems to do this when I run it on supermarket fuel and Stihl red oil. But when I use my own fuel in it, shell and Stihl green oil it's fine Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. Sorry for the detail, but I climbed on that the other day when I'd left my good rope and zig zag at home after washing it. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. I used to use a Vermeer 1200 where I used to work. Awesome machine! If you could fit it into the rollers it would chip it. We used to fell whole trees, winch them to the the rollers and with the hydraulic crusher just chip the tree whole, didn't seem to breakdown as much as the two bc 1000s or 1800s we also had. If I could only have one chipper this would be it. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Ok thanks, Yes, I meant correct pruning cuts, apart from those ash I mentioned in my first post I have never felt the need to spike any tree I haven't been removing. After all that's what ladders are for[emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. Is it worse than correct pruning cuts? Not trying to be argumentative and I know it's not good practice, but just interested. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. I have had to spike up trees in the past when pruning trees near power lines. They were tall woodland ash which had no lower branches that were in reach of the poles to put my rope in. We were not allowed to use a throw line because of the power lines. We went up the back of the trees as carefully as we could so not to leave too many gaff marks. There was no other way. Spikes were removed as soon as we could reach the first branch. If you are careful, how much damage does a gaff mark really do? It is not Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. Maybe he just coppiced it? Then it'll still be a hedge Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. I may be wrong but I think at this time of year, the sap rising from the stump pushes the glyphosate out of the stump and it can run down the bark and kill the vegetation around the stump or drip into a water course. Hopefully there will be someone who knows more than i Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. Do you need any gate posts or beams? You could get it milled and use the timber yourself Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. Ford ranger 2wd double cab. Can carry a ton of logs and keeps all the bark, mud and muck out of the cab Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Seems like a sensible idea, good luck with it mate. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  15. Definitely get a transit type tipper. You can't get bugger all chip in a double cab tipper. I run both, but if that's not a option for you then what about a cheap family car and transit tipper or a double cab transit Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  16. I sub myself, Groundy, tipper and chipper out for £400 day. I think this is a reasonable amount, although probably should be more. I don't do this everyday though as I do my own work as well which makes me more. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. For domestic tree work tho, the smaller and lighter chipper the better. I have a 6 inch petrol entec and can push it round in someone's gravel driveway on my own. Can't do that with a 190 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Don't have to worry about that Steve, I have my artic license! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. Don't think there should be a lip. Unless you fitted it upside down[emoji12]. 2 things it could be. Is it seated down correctly, did you get any crap caught underneath it? Or could the edge against where it sits have got worn down as well as the old anvil? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  20. Firm I used to work for had 3 190's And we used to tow them all over Hampshire with just transits. Transits will tow them fine and they are easier to reverse than a smaller one. Even with a full load of chip it wasn't too bad. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  21. Alcohol is a depressant. When I don't drink at all I do feel better, but I still want a drink so then I have one but it does make me grumpy. Give it up for a week and see how you feel, I know it's not the only thing that causes it but you might be surprised. Feel for you tho, feeling Down is not much fun. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  22. Before Xmas I was looking for a new transit. I had about £2500 to spend and there is definitely nothing half decent about for that money, there seemed to be lots on eBay for around £5000 that were ex council trucks from small dealers, I would have thought ex council trucks would be better looked after and have less issues with clocking and other checks, I bought an ex bt transit with 130000 miles on it with a new tipper for far too much on finance from a large dealer and that has issues. Good luck with your search Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. Hi, If it's east of Bath, then I can recommend myself. I have a entec 6 inch chipper and transit tipper so if that's sounds any good to you then pm me or probably best to call or text me on 07917725646. Thanks Will Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. That's when you want a good Groundy who will let the big bits run Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. Didn't one of the authors of 'the art and science of practical rigging' have a fatal accident when the tree he was working on failed beneath him? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
