  1. No, a seed would never germinate and then graft into the Tree it was growing on, it just feeds on whatever moisture and nutrients it can get its roots into. I think a tree has to be the same species to graft onto another.
  2. Saw this rhody, growing on an oak branch the other day. Seemed to be rooted in the moss growing on the branch. Plenty of moisture for it seeing it was near a water fall
  3. You can, just feed in long bits as normal, and use a push stick to feed in tangled and short bits
  4. Ice hair fungus found in the Forest of Dean last year by a very good friend
  5. Went for a walk today at devils bridge in Ceredigion, spotted a stump with coins hammered into it, and then noticed this tree as well
  6. Maze gill fungus found on an oak stump in a wood in west wales today.
  7. Went to savernake today to look for some of the named trees, only found two but found this one with a rather large burr on it!
  8. Found this little scarlet elf cap yesterday, a tiny bit of colour on an otherwise grey day
  9. Might need 1.5’s to protect against red deer, that’s what we used to use on exmoor
  10. Ah forgot to say what chipper! It’s an entec ch18 One feed roller 5 inch 18 hp petrol
  11. Going to change the hydraulic oil in my chipper because a pipe burst the other day, which I fixed but didn’t check the level before going out with it again. It was low on oil and there was a Halfords close by so to keep going I bought some hydraulic oil for car suspension ( I think). It ran, got to job done but now needs topping up and I thought I’d change the oil and filter while I was at it. So, which grade oil will I need when I go to get some tomorrow? (Not Halfords by the way!) Thanks Will
  12. Ha, sorry for the rant then eggs!
  13. Why am I a right wing numpty? If there is anything wrong with the nhs then why should I be given first class treatment, as I feel I have been. If there is a problem with them doing operations more important than mine then why is the doctor who is doing my vasectomy doing that and not operating on someone who really needs it? That would be like me going to do a hedge trimming job and leaving a fallen tree cross someone’s driveway doesn’t make sense.
  14. Having a vasectomy at the beginning of the month. Only went to book it just before Xmas , not much of a wait there really is there? Just over a month for a non essential op. No too bad at all
  15. Done this a few times, and once after I had just done it a local councillor turned up and started complaining about all the trees that were being felled in his area. He rang the Tree officer whilst we carried on and she told him that they weren’t protected and nothing could now be done. He wasn’t happy! I did feel a bit sorry for him.
  16. It’s a sunrise but one of my favourite trees, get to drive past it most mornings
  17. It was on radio 2
  18. Ok, not always quicker and definitely not just for one branch but if you are having to lower several large branches from the same point over and over again, then setting up a block and a friction device at the bottom of the tree is quicker over the day than keep wrapping it round the trunk. It depends on the situation, you know that mick
  19. In other news, just heard on the radio about a Devon butcher who got locked in a freezer beating his way out with a black pudding! Said if he hadn’t of got out he would have frozen to death in half an hour!
  20. Yea beginning to thing that voting out would have been the wrong thing to do, ( I didnt make it to the polling station in time) Seems like the government have and still are wasting a lot of time and money making things worse for Britain.
  21. Yea that’s fine for the odd small branch now and again, I do it sometimes. But it’s quicker and safer to use proper gear
  22. If it is a shared alley way, could they be fly tipping? Even if not, if you report it as fly tipping to the local council at least it would bring it to their attention
  23. Hmm seem to have had a second wind after Xmas, don’t know whether that’s down to having a new girlfriend or knowing the day are now getting longer. Can’t eat breakfast tho, been like that for the last 6 months, maybe I’m just getting old
  24. Could you not buy the saws you need when you are out there and then send them back to England by courier afterwards?
