  1. Yea but is as bad as it sounds? I thought ash were more genetically diverse than elm so more trees were resistant to ash dieback. I didn't know about the beetle though. I thought it was only in America
  2. Also a drop of wd40 will help
  3. Really interesting thread and a wonderful old orchard. Thanks for sharing it
  4. Here is my bitch who won champion puppy at the game fair at bath and west. The dog did ok too
  5. How's this, pay for them to do the course, pay them their wages while the are doing the course, once they have done the course then the should have a pay rise because they are worth more money, but don't give them a pay rise until you have earnt the money back maybe One or two years later. My old boss put me through my hgv class 1 which cost him thousands but I didn't have a pay rise in the 4 years that I worked for him.
  6. Move over reg and August, this video beats any of yours hands down!
  7. Good idea, mine is always moving around and being a pain in the ass. I only use a rope strop, but used a mates wire strop the other day and he had a soft link between the rope grab and carabiner and I found this slightly easier to use
  8. I dont think you can grow alder this way. I thought it can only be done with poplar and willow. I may be wrong though.

  10. It was completely dead. Very little rot in it tho, fungus all the way up the trunk, and shattered into a million peices
  11. Beech fell we did today, I took a heavy limb off the back then we let the apprentice fell it
  12. Don't offer To work for free for anyone. That is just ridiculous. But start off as a Groundy and work your way up
  13. Reduced 5 oak and one ash tree, 4 were half over a barn with an oil tank under 2 and a pallet of roof tiles under one for good measure!
  14. Changed the av rubbers on my 200t this evening after breaking one yesterday, one day of using a 201t was enough! The other 2 rubbers were shot as well it had been feeling a bit floppy so tomorrow it should be good as new. Just need to replace the stop and earth wire now so I don't have to keep using the choke to turn it off.
  15. This! But get a cheap room in a house share, a little money for a roof over your head is well spent. If you've your tickets, then you will find a job, maybe anywhere in the country. Companies are crying out for qualified staff at least they are down south. Good luck will
  16. A few lads at work had Marlow wasp, it went very fluffy very quickly. I agree with joe xtc is nice rope, also New England hi vee is a nice 13mm rope
  17. I have used weebly. Really easy to use and given me a nice looking site, I'm just not happy about my content, so need to just tweek it a bit
  18. I have had my prabos boots for over six months now. They are lasting well so far and they are very comfy. But not being gortex lined do let the water in if it rains all day ( which doesn't often happen in Wiltshire). But for £100 I am happy with then
  19. Nice to be able to go back and see what you did a few years ago growing nicely now. I'm no expert either but I did quite a lot 5-10 years ago when I lived in Devon. Haven't done any since moving to Berks/ wilts. If anyone needs any doing near Marlborough let me know. I'd love to start doing a bit again
  20. When I was planting we were on a piece work rate. Not much more than 30 pence per tree and tube so we had to plant lots in a day. Mind you we were well practised and slit planting and either random spacings or wavy lines but as others have said if you go slower then you will plant the trees better and spread the roots properly. I still think plant first then stake tho! We used homemade post bangers, made from 2,5 inch steel tube with a weight in the end. It was just right to grip around the tube. And the right length so that when you knocked the stake in until the tube touched the ground the stake was the perfect height
  21. When i used to plant trees we nearly always planted first then staked afterwards. Its easier to get the stake in the right place this way round. From memory we planted 200_250 per man per day butit depeends on the ground
  22. No, im joking, its ashame when a new road goes in anywhere, but glad they managed to save the tree
  23. If people didn't plant the wrong tree in the wrong place to begin with..........
  24. I used to get songs stuck in my head when I was younger, but don't any more? Can't say I miss that
  25. I wouldn't worry too much normally they are tough. But I split the seam on mine and repaired it with araldite and fibreglass strips and that is still going strong so you could reinforce it like that
