  1. Is it only the UK where this is an issue? Was the H.S.E. ruling due to a one off accident? There was a knee jerk reaction with electrical installations in kitchens and bathrooms. This I believe was after an MP's daughter was electrocuted in a kitchen. Was the top handle legislation down to multiple deaths or maiming incidents, or just one event? As far as I can make out I am able to use my older top handle on the ground, but cant use a newer one, is that correct. H-A
  2. Beer is a great result for small jobs. I look forward to the grass cutting season, "I get your mower started, you buy me beer", works well with the neighbours. Also saw a neighbour stopped by the side of the road, towed him home, did not wan't money off him, but later found beer in the porch. Then you help someone out massively, spend loads of time and some money, all you get is a thanks. I like the beer payment method. H-A
  3. For de-scaling steam cleaners. regular maintenance on Karcher steam cleaners, I do mine every couple of years, as I don't use every day. I get mine from here Uk Valet Supplies - Detailing and Valeting Products Supplier H-A
  4. Yes it is but quite expensive, I find a cheaper source is from car valet suppliers. 5 Gallon HCl £15, or 1 gallon £5. You need gloves and goggles for this stuff as it smokes when you take the top off. H-A
  5. I was saying to my son last night, if it were us we would move every thing upstairs, mastic the door jams, punch a hole in the floor slab, get the pump from the shed and cope. Try and avoid a claim from the insurance company, or you may well loose a large chunk of the value of your house. If you live near a river be prepared. I have seen in some Cornish towns, special anti flood barriers that drop into groove fixed to the door frame, simple but effective. I have spoken to people who have been flooded and they say "the water comes in from everywhere, very hard to stop. But you see people on the TV who have made no attempt to move anything, knowing the insurance company will pick up the bill. When it comes to renewing the insurance they will get a shock, also if they get the house valued they will get a shock. Take some responsibility fill your own sandbags, H-A
