    water damage ?

OK I admit I buy the cheap stuff from boot sales, £1.50 a tin, £12/case. Spray oil stuff, generic term "WD40" H-A
  2. Could be possible with a CNC pipe bender. Anyone got one in the shed? Should be easy to get some made, trouble will be minimum run of 100. H-A

    water damage ?

"lubricant, penetrating oil and water-displacing spray" I must have it wrong then. I use it on saws that have been rained on, before putting them away. It stops them rusting, which is nice. H-A

    water damage ?

It will be fine, I have had a couple of outboards go for a swim, remove plug pull it over until no more water comes out. Run it for a good bit get it nice and hot, spray with WD40 before you put it up on a shelf not on the floor:biggrin: H-A
  5. This is what is in Tescos best petrol Specifications | Momentum99 Benefits | Tesco Petrol Filling Station Methanol%(v/v) 3.0 Ethanol%(v/v) 5.0 Iso-propyl alcohol%(v/v) 10.0 Iso-butyl alcohol%(v/v) 10.0 Tert-butyl alcohol%(v/v) 7.0 Ethers (5 or more C atoms)%(v/v) 15.0 Other oxygenates%(v/v) 10.0 It gets worse:biggrin: We may all be using alkylate petrol soon as you say, but what we need is another couple of brands, a bit of competition always helps the consumer. 6. It is not the power I am after, it is the lack of ethanol. BP Ultimate "hopefully" contains no ethanol. I believe now some supermarket fuel contains 20% ethanol. Carb diaphragms and fuel hoses don't like ethanol. H-A
  7. British Petroleum say "BP ULTIMATE OCTANE 98 minimum BP Ultimate is the highest octane retail fuel that BP has on the market. It has an octane rating between 98 and 100 and does not contain ethanol." That is what I use. H-A

    Which oil

Good post, I was just looking at what I should be using. I have used Oregon semi synthetic no problems, red one shot Stihl no problems, at the moment I am using Stihl HP Super semi synthetic no problems. Should I be using full synthetic? I noticed a post that said a husky saw warranty would not be valid if using Oregon oil, I find this hard to believe. I would think that Oregon semi synthetic would be as good as the rest. The 560XP owners manual says, " Two-stroke oil • For best results and performance use HUSQVARNA two-stroke engine oil, which is specially formulated for our air-cooled two-stroke engines. • Never use two-stroke oil intended for water-cooled engines, sometimes referred to as outboard oil (rated TCW). • Never use oil intended for four-stroke engines. • A poor oil quality and/or too high oil/fuel ratio may jeopardise function and decrease the life time of catalytic converters." Should you use Stihl oil for Stihl saws, and Husqvarna oil for Husqvarna saws? saws can't be that sensitive, or brand concious. If it seizes using Aspen, does that expedite any warranty claim as the fuel must have been correctly mixed? I think we should also be asking, which oil makes premium pump fuel keep better. H-A
  9. Can anyone tell me what the 100 ingredients of unleaded petrol are please. Obviously there is no lead:biggrin: I know there are various additives such as carcinogenic benzene, but are 98 of the ingredients just slightly different fractions from the distillation of the crude oil. I wish Aspen was only £10 per gallon, then we could all use it, without query. Is there fuel duty on Aspen? At the moment petrol duty is 58p/litre. If Aspen has no duty included in the price, then it is very expensive. If it has 58p/litre duty, then we should lobby the European parliament for the removal of duty on alkylate petrol ready mixed 2 stroke fuel for chainsaw use. If it is that green how can they argue to point. Worth a thought perhaps H-A

    Rescue

Bensheim. In small gardens on the railway line, a man had Tree felling squeezed his hand between a wegkippenden branch and the chain. The accident happened at 5 m height. The man stood on the ladder and had the emergency services are exempt from the predicament. Google translate, hand trapped by branch against chain. This one is a little worrying, lucky he did not cut his throat. Die Rache des Baumes! - YouTube H-A
  11. I have just been reading this, http://www.nfahc.co.uk/pdf_files/ethanol/ethanol%20in%20petrol.pdf Looks like the premium brands of petrol contain no ethanol, but this could be out of date. I generally buy the super petrol for my saws, but am now thinking about "date batched" label on my combi can. When I find a place selling Aspen I will give a can a go. H-A
  12. I am not sure what the reason for fuel going off is, is this a new thing. I realise that the more volatile fractions will evaporate, thus reducing the octane value, and the ethanol content will absorb water. Other than that what else is going wrong. How does this degradation effect the combustion in the cylinder to give seizing problems. I would have thought that the saw would run less well with stale fuel, but from what I am reading, old petrol kills saws. I am surprised that the oil manufacturers do not mix a stabilising additive in the oil. Is the "stale fuel used" term, being wrongly accepted as an excuse for premature cylinder failure. Perhaps I need to revue my "cost of Aspen" thoughts, if there is a definite answer to fuel degradation claims. Does Aspen have any volatile components that evaporate in periods of little or no use? 16. I think there must be a little confusion here. Was the weight quoted gross or net? I demand a stewards enquiry, where is the weight ticket? H-A
  17. Iroko makes my lungs hurt if I machine it, I would wear a good mask. Boot sales are a good place to buy large circular saws, no one wants them as they are awkward and heavy to use. Boot sale season won't be long, or ebay is a good place. H-A
  18. Is that worn out one actually on fire:biggrin: H-A

  22. It is like when a neighbour says " can I borrow a chainsaw?", noooooooo. Saying that one of my neighbours bought a B&Q saw to remove some trees in his back garden, left the Leylandii and took out the yew. I did pop my head over his fence after he had been revving its nuts off it for 5 hours, and offered to sharpen his chain for him. H-A
