  1. Hi guys ,so I have been thinking and I know it’s dangerous but when Chainsaw milling wedges are important so with a bandsaw mill why don’t we need them is it the narrow kerf would a wedge or two help in heavy timber

Not bad is it your first one ,get some images to work from or models a grinder with a rough pad is a good investment,I use one on my owls I sand the head as I find most people like to run their hands over them as nice timber is so tactical and it helps with sales ,keep practicing there is always a new trick to learn Good luck and have fun with it don’t worry about making firewood I have made loads .   3. Yeah get a mill but be warned it’s just like crack milling is addictive I love it every time you turn over the first board and see the grain .

Hi yep Stephen Cull is the man for bandsaw blades I ordered new bands and they were waiting for me on my back step the next day when I got home from work and for trouble shooting total nice guy when I explained that I was totally new to bandsaw milling ,he says I am always on the other end of the phone if you get stuck give me a call ,just like Rob D a total asset to our industry ,

  7. Hi guys , I am in need of 8/10 saw logs about 18/20 inch diameter and 4/6 mtrs long ,and either WRC, Larch or anything else that would make good cladding ,if anybody can help that would be ace. Many Thanks Mark
  8. Hi me too Elm and holly my favourite woods I think I have 1 Elm butt not very big ,ordered Some new bands today so should be milling my last bit of Elm next week, Cheers Mark
  9. Hi Josh , I am in Dorset and if you are up for coming and helping that would be awesome, I have a woodland mill so if we had time we could cut some proper quarter sawn slabs and some of them would be about 2 ft wide I think there are some photos of the butt on hear somewhere. Cheers Mark

Hi I have 4 butts ,so one is defo getting milled ,maybe 2 but I need a big milling bar as it’s 42 inch diameter and then we have a 3 way union that we are thinking about chainsaw carving into Cerberus to be are guard dog at the end of our track and the last bit we just don’t have a plan for yet,if anybody who has a big chainsaw milling bar wants to come and help me mill this oak then P M me Cheers Mark

Hi yep I have tried transplanting fungi from beech with to beech without and it didn’t work but burying the end half way in wet sawdust seems to work also just leaving a few boards under your bench again covered in damp fresh sawdust seems to work ,I had a chunk of beech under my bench totaly forgot about and cleaning out under the bench and uncovered this chunk scraped the sawdust from it and wow ,an old boy told me you can cover the boards in sawdust wrap in black plastic and leave and that will encourage spalting it’s just a matter of catching it before it’s rotten,have an experiment.   17. Hi yep all set up as should be and yes snapped at the weld as I am totally new to band milling it’s all a learning curve that’s for sure I need to spend a day with someone who has been using a bandmill for a while I think
  18. Hi yep get someone to mill it with an Alaskan especially if you have a mate with one ,bring it my yard and we can have a go no problem. Cheers Mark

Hi guys what have I done wrong this time, I was milling some WRC yesterday and the sound my mill makes changed slightly so I check everything I can think of and only having a few cuts left I cracked on then bang my band snapped,defo a learning curve as always looking forward to all your thoughts.   20. Hi mate I have some cedar that is quite dry but very rain wet it’s an off cut that has been left in the rain ,Doug Fir I could cut green but I doubt that’s any good,and I have some western red but it’s not that good quality, I think you should still have my number give me a ring Cheers Mark
  21. Hi guys ,so today I was offered for free a big Scots pine ,but all I know about it is that it’s sappy and sticky ,but is it worth getting to mill as it’s free

Hi ,staining holly what a waste the colours in holly are ace ,it does have its issues when drying, but I have been quite lucky and have made some lovely furniture out of it ,it’s one of my favourite timbers it’s a creamy/grey colour and it just doesn’t come along in sawl log size very often.
