  1. Hi Thanks Mr Forest it makes sense to me now ,it’s just all new to me I have never helped anybody with a bandmill so I am finding out all these little things on my own ,but happy as to have a bandmill just need a cheap 3 phase power supply for my thicknesser
  2. Hi I have used Easy Composites as well and I have used EliChem both are very helpful on the phone but unfortunately resin is expensive and it don’t go very far ,if you are going to f##k about with it then get a couple of sheets of Polypropylene as the resin does not stick to it and some flash tape I think easy composites sell the tape but eBay for the polypropylene ,easy composites have a quite good vid on their site as do EliChem ,oh one more thing a heat gun or old hair dryer as when you mix the resin it gets loads of bubbles in it and a gentle heat gets rid of the bubbles. Good luck with it and do post some pics
  3. Hi mate ,can you please give me a shout when the slabs are ready I would be up for one or two depending on price !or we could have a deal if you want a table making
  4. Hi yep we are in the same position, why would I apply for business rate relief if I don’t have to pay business rates it’s bonkers I should be at a show this weekend but I am not ,still got to pay the rent on my yard , I spoke to the council and they were no help we have been a bit lucky and got a small commission that we can do as me an my girlfriend are in the workshop on our own are just as isolated as at home on our own,and my big old dog lost his battle with cancer yesterday my house is too empty so being at work suits me fine ,but 10grand would suite me a bloody site more
  5. So it seems to me that the government is helping everyone except the self employed,we rely on country shows ,fairs etc for a big part of our living not only sales but orders that come in weeks sometimes months after ,my yard costs my house costs !cant live in a caravan or a bus as the government don’t like that ,so I pay my taxes and now what the F##k am I ment to do !my poor dog is very sick with cancer no money coming in !claim fucking universal credit !taking the piss !where is our help and everyone else who is in the same position ,and fair play Timon what you and your charity does world wide is cool as

  9. Hi get a 12v winch I have a 2tonne hand winch and it’s ok on nice round cedar logs but heavy nobbly butts it’s hard work, also make sure the steel you use for the winch pole is nice and thick walled as my pole has bent so badly I need to remake it and I think a small laser pointer is a good investment as you can point it down the butt to make sure it’s going to fit through the throat ! I have taken the chainsaw to a few butts on the mill , that’s my advice for what’s its worth only had the mill a short while so just finding my feet with it Cheers Mark
  10. Hi scraggs are you in the market for a commercial disco Landy it needs a bit of welding in the back and a new floor but there is a kit with it for all the panels it belongs to my colleague at my yard it also needs wheels Cheers Mark
  11. So that’s what I read but I have adjusted the one side like 3/4 times and every time I cut a board it’s moving with the band and I am only cutting 15mm WRC so not pushing that hard so what’s going on
  12. 100k sander bloody hell thats bigger than my 25 inch thicknesser, I also need 3 phase and by what I have worked out from my research is a generator is better bet than a converter have a look at the Ramco auction site it’s all ex military and they have unissued 3 phase silent generators for £1500 unfortunately I just don’t have that kind of cash spare at the moment.
  13. So excuse my ignorance if this is a stupid question but got to ask ! I have changed the band guide bearings and all the bolts ,so my question is are they ment to turn as the band goes round I have set them up with a mill clearance but with it all being new to me just not sure so as with anything if you don’t know ask . Thanks Mark
  14. Hi Squardey, I have quite a few fairly big Ash trees that are cankered , on the small Est I look after I could easily take one or 2 out and mill some if you want to buy some PM if you are interested Cheers Mark
  15. Hi I used to have an AEC Militant a 1956 ex army lorry with a belly winch ,it was rated 100 tonnes towing on the flat with a good set of ramps most butts could be winched up onto the bed ,bloody wish I still had it ,they did some with timber winches ,Matadors as well ,old slow but up to the job and cool as F##c ,something to think about

Hi nothing wrong with fruit picking ,I used to travel from one park up to another picking different things ,daffodils were the worst we used to call it daf rash something in the sap just made your fingers split like F##k , I am lucky at the mo just got a big table commission and Me and the girlfriend are just as isolated in our workshop on our own as at home on our own and the small Est I look after I am on my own ,but if needs must I would defo go picking fruit.

  20. Yep no help for me , I rang the business rates people and as I am not getting business rate relief then can’t claim the 10g but I have a big business premises and why would I claim something I don’t qualify for it’s bonkers
  21. Nice train carriage how long did it take and what’s it going to be used for when done
  22. Well as far as I can work out you can still go to work if it cannot be done from home so for me and my girlfriend it’s almost carrying on as normal,we are just as isolated in our workshop on our own as at home and as we make stuff to sell then there is always something that I want to make we are going to have a lot of stock when this is all over so if any of you are in a similar situation then I would just crack on ,the government help for self employed is a piss take and got to wait till fucking June just spent my small savings on a mill and a few other bits and bobs ,sign on for universal credit that’s a joke
  23. Hi I have a drying shed in the corner of my yard open on 2 sides but with a big over hang to keep the rain off and I always sticker my milled boards , I also have an old rabbit breeding shed on the small estate I look after so yeah plenty of air flow I could do with some pallet racking to go in it but I have only just started using it as I am quickly running out of room at my yard . Thanks everyone stay safe
