  1. Hi guys , I have been around wood my whole life my dad was a master carpenter so I learnt a lot from him ,but bandsaw milling is like most things it’s own thing ,like how to place the log on the mill ,,I have been having trouble when I get like half or two thirds through the log and need to drop the supports down then the log gets thinner but if you slide it over then the mill head will not go past it ,I know I am missing something easy but as it’s all new and learning as I go it’s frustrating but ace fun I love milling got some holly lined up next .
  2. Hi thanks guys the wood is monkey puzzle and it is quite wet so maybe it’s that there’s a picture of some of the boards in Monkey puzzle vrs winch on a pole

Cheers Mark
  9. Hi guys ,so I have been chainsaw milling for yrs and I have now got a woodland mill and it’s a whole new thing so if there was some training I would defo go for it , Steven Cull ,Blade Master will come and do a days training and service of your saw , it’s defo a good idea to spend a day with someone who has been running a bandmill for a while before settling out with one of your own ,I have made quite a few mistakes but hey I will get there !if anybody who has experience in band milling wants to come and do an experience day at my yard for a few of us then I would be totally up for it I will even get the coffee and cakes in Cheers Mark

So guys I have been asked to quote to build an A frame glamping pod type thing and to keep the costs down,so I have some western red saw logs and access to some Doug Fir ,would either of these fresh milled green be alright for the frame construction it’s getting clad in box profile roofing as that is what the customer wants obviously with a membrane, all thoughts and advise welcome Thanks Mark

Hi I have just got myself a used woodland mill hm130 after replacing some nylon bushes it’s cutting nice with a ripper 37 ,the paint is peeling but hey it don’t affect it’s cutting,Chris Pierce who imports them is a sound bloke ,so yeah I am super chuffed with my woodland mill, where are you if you are anywhere near Dorset you are totally welcome to come to my yard and have a look at my mill no worries, good luck with whatever you get but be warned milling is just like crack it’s addictive, I already want a bigger mill . Cheers Mark
  25. Hi guys I might have this wrong but I have been chainsaw milling for a good few yrs now and surely fast chainsaw milling at 63 inches isn’t a thing ,don’t you just let the saw cut as fast as it’s happy to do nice and easy no over stressing the saw get a good finish is surely better than getting it done as fast as possible Cheers Mark
