  2. Hi , I will be going to Tyler Hardwoods on Monday so will see then ,but their web site has some nice stuff on it ,some really cool stem bending ,I hope it’s worth the trip
  3. The Brown Oak,that I have seen has been all brown,but I haven’t seen that much.
  4. Hi just found some brown oak hopefully Tyler Hardwoods at Marlborough ,and half the price rough quote £80 , for 2.5 mtrs long 500 wide and 52 thick , Happy days .

Hi guys does anybody have a plank of brown oak about 2 and a half Mars long 50cms wide and 50mm thick ,I am in desperate need of some I bought a plank from a matey who runs a sawmill,at not a very good price,so made the table and now need another board for the benches to go with it the price has gone up quite a lot ,I know we all need to make a living but hey .So Looking for a brown oak board Thanks Mark

  12. Hi everyone just thought I would give you an update on how I cut the legs ,I used one of those saws from Japan ,bloody ace such a nice cut ,took a bit of getting used to but ace saw ,I think I will get more of them

Hi Andy, yeah just a small off set 2mm just as you drill the hole go through the front and the tendon then just mark the back of the mortise remove the head board clamp an off cut to the back to avoid break out then just eye it over slightly and away to go ,well that’s how I was taught , good luck and do post some pics when done , I quite often will use a contrasting coloured wood for pegs as a bit of a feature ,yew and greenheart work well in my experience, I can send you some greenheart if you want. Hi if you are going to peg right through to avoid glue slightly off set the rear dowel hole as then if you leave the peg an inch or so proud if it loosens up as it drys you will be able to tap the dowel in a bit and keep it tight ,that’s how I was taught to do pegs on Oak framing ,Looks Ace ,a bed is one of those things I keep saying I am going to make myself but never get round to it

  16. Hi it’s nice to carve but just will not last outside but for anything inside it’s like lime and have a look at what Grinlin Gibbons carved with lime it’s totaly stunning
  17. Hi I have a big old Makita circular saw hand held and for rough stuff it’s ace if I had time to adapt something so it could run on the track that came with the makita track saw that would be cool ,but I just can’t find a big chop saw .

Hi guys thanks for your reply’s ,Steve I do have a compound mitre saw that does 4 inch but turning the work round is never that accurate,maybe I need a new one ,the one I have is quite old it’s a erbauer one and it’s been ace my old neighbor worked at a place making park homes and came hammer with a massive one he never set it up and gave it away , I will give him a ring tomorrow, I have used a spear and Jackson,predator and a Japanese saw that is ace but it’s a ball ache ,Thanks for all your replays

So I am making another big table and having the same issue I always have when cutting say 6x6 oak legs flat on both ends I don’t have a saw big enough and as far as I can find out neither does any woodshop near me ,cutting with a hand saw is a F###ing nightmare, cutting half way and turning it over is never that good how do you all manage ,looking forward to hearing your replys Cheers Mark

Hi guys I just haven’t done any carving in a long time working on getting my bandmill sorted a shed for it etc but I totally agree we should do something to revitalise the forum,as for swearing it don’t bother me a swear all the F###ing time but in context and not aimed at people,as soon as I do some carving I will defo post it hear cheers Mark

  24. Nice job with the burr. I use Eli Chem for the resin and the glow powder and they are so helpful on the phone ,but taking photos is a nightmare,I have used Easy Composits resin and didn’t think it was as good , there are all sorts of glow in the dark colours on eBay but I have not bothered to order any so can’t say what they are like
  25. Hi oh yes totally F##ed the band it ended up behind the band wheel ,but I thought I would use that one to get it set back up then when it looks good I will change it for the only new one I have left I need to order some more .
