  1. Hi yep defo worth milling ,do you want it all as I am always up for some pear wood . Cheers Mark
  2. Hi yep just a quick box I knocked up it’s going to have rope handles quite chuffed with it ,we are at a wood fair this weekend so hopefully it will sell but as with most things I make putting a price on it is difficult ant thoughts on what’s it worth Cheers Mark
  3. Coast Redwood takes the burn really well
  4. Hi guys, a table top from the monkey puzzle I milled with my Alaskan a few months back hope you like it Cheers Mark
  5. Hi the first thing I would do is remove the bark there is an ugly wood boaring beetle that loves oak bark and sapwood ,and the general rule of thumb is an inch a year plus a year so 3 yrs for a 2 inch board but depending on what you want to make a shorter drying time may work
  6. Hi Mr Slabber ,no the joinery can be a simple as you want or are able to do !you could just use coach bolts and screws ,you can get black coach screws from eBay and make a feature of them easy peasy
  7. Yep sticky as and heavy but amazing boards , I have a load of monkey puzzle that I got a few months back can’t wait to Mill the rest of it ,the sections with the branches are worth it but the rest will probably be quite plain, there should be some photos of some shelves I did for my daughter in the woodcraft forum, so I would say get it and mill it .
  8. So guys now I have my band Mill where is the best place to buy the bands and do they vary in teeth per inch if so is there a guide of some sort or is it best just to use like an all purpose band .its going to be a learning curve but hopefully well worth it Thanks Mark
  9. Hi guys always have a head full of interesting projects it’s getting time to round to them all
  10. Hi guys right I had not done anything no adjusting I was cutting some yew the first cut and it started ok then got a bit tight but I think the log may have knocked into the guide rollers and just knocked the band off but then on opening the doors ai think the tracking may also have been out so watched the vid on blade changing and tracking the band was a used one as the mill is a used one I have another band so I will set it all up and have another go but will have to wait until Monday now . Thanks everyone
  11. Hi mate not sure it was going ok then got a little tight and next thing it’s like in the photo I think the log may have gotten tight on the frame ,another thing though how tight should the mill head be on the uprights mine is quite loose so you can rattle it about is this right. Thanks Mark
  12. Hi guys have a look at what I've managed to do on my first day with the mill I broke it
  13. So now I have my new (to me) woodland mill I am thinking table tops so have any of you milled end grain so interested of laying the log down stand it up and cut rings ,is this something that can be done will it hurt the mill ,I have seen only one vid of this being done and that was on a truly massive mill in the US somewhere. Thanks Mark
  14. Hi Khriss I was going to make one ,my mate that has a space in our yard removed the hook from his felling bar ,ace I think I have a pick axe handle job done and now we have looked bloody everywhere and cant find the thing so I think I am going to get the Sthil yard hook . Thanks guys for your views as always much appreciated Thanks Mark
  15. Hi Guys ,so I now need to buy a can’t hook as I have managed with my felling bar up to now I need a cant hook I have looked around and eBay seems to have loads but was wondering where you all get yours from as having just bought myself a woodland mill I am now skint for a while so looking for a good deal ,Thanks Mark
  16. Hi Woodworks, no worries sorry it so long I have been so busy ,what do you need the Pear wood for I am curious.
  17. Hi Jon did you make your own ramps as £500 from woodland mills seems bloody expensive
  18. Hi yep it comes on a trailer hence the wanting to fit a hydraulic lifter I could have a forklift in the yard but if I am out on site then hydraulics would be ace ,but I expect to have to go with ramps and a winch to start with unless I am lucky and can get the hydraulics sorted quickly,a matey of mine mends tractors so first thing Monday I will be popping in to see him .
  19. Hi Stuby I started with Wish you were hear then Dark Side of the Moon ,defo the best band I have seen live F###ing amazing ,Momentary lapse of reason
  20. Hi guys so I am getting a woodland mill and now thinking about maybe adding a hydraulic log lifter but I don’t know anything about hydraulics so has anybody already done this and can tell me how to get it done as cheap as possible Thanks Mark
  21. Hi Thanks that’s all good advice I do have an arrowsmith junior kiln just need to make a box for it ,there’s one on eBay at the mo with all the manuals so I messaged the seller and asked if he would photo copy for me and he said he would try and find time,so yeah I do sort of have a kiln but one of those logosol sauno kilns looks good and a forklift , need to get log ramps made as £500 seems very expensive,if you are ever in our part of the world do pop in Cheers Mark
  22. Hi I am getting a woodland mills HM130 it’s used but in good nic and trailered so after a short time chainsaw milling I was totally into milling so have been doing my best to get a bandmill ,Alaskan Mills are ace and they have their place but are F###ing hard work and after breaking and dislocating my ankle,it’s even more demanding,so hence a bandmill and hopefully with an advertising campaign I will be selling milled timber ,and have been talking with a mate about making living wagons with a difference imagine mad max meets high end interiors and if it don’t work out I can always sell the mill
