  1. Hi guys after bloody ages finally had a proper go with my hm 130, my ramps worked but need fine tuning, totally chuffed with the mill, and those monkey puzzle boards are cool, can't wait to get back at it Cheers Mark
  2. Hi I think we should concentrate on banning things like nuclear power ,depleted uranium shells ,fracking ,old rubber factories in the former USSR ,before bloody fireworks.Geo engineering poses a much bigger threat than fireworks, spraying heavy metals into our atmosphere creating man made clouds shutting all the greenhouse gases under a blanket of cloud causing temperatures to rise even more if we do not put a stop to geo engineering we could end up with a cascade event and then we are all Fu##ed
  3. Hi Mr Hooker ,same as the bigger the size the longer the leg I tried one pair on and the knee pads were around my ankle ,Hi Witt the trousers I have are Sthil Dynamic front protection and size 36 almost brand new in the box with the patch material Happy New Year. Mark
  4. So guys how long is too long to leave D Fir before it becomes hard to cut ,a matey of mine has left a pile of logs in the woods for about a year and now wants me to mill it for him ,is a year too long ? I think you are going to say yes it is but thought I would ask those with more experience than me Thanks Happy New Year. Mark
  5. Hi it sure does have many variables, but what I first asking was does anybody have a big and deep Alaskan or Panther Mill ,that is up for coming and helping me to quarter this trunk as I don’t want to free hand it . Happy New Year. Mark
  6. Sorry Andy as far as I understand quarter sawing you cut the butt into quarters then take cut from the flat bottom upwards then turn 90% cut upwards ,there is a diagram on hear somewhere,if I remember right you want to box out the very heart of the butt as that’s the most unstable bit . I think that’s right Happy New Year. Mark
  7. If I free hand it the first cuts through the middle will probably be shite and if done right 4 boards at least would be almost 2ft wide and true quarter sawn English Oak 2ft wide with quite a bit of brown in them should be worth quite a lot , and made into furniture would be stunning.
  8. Hi I really don’t want to free hand it ,Steve it’s 42 inch diameter
  9. Hi guys ,so I have an oversize Oak butt in my yard that I would love to quarter saw but my Alaskan is not big enough and I just can’t buy a bigger ,deeper set up for one butt so does anybody out there have an Alaskan big enough that’s up for coming and helping me Mill it . Thanks Mark
  10. Hi guys thanks for your reply’s it was woodlots but when I looked on it most of the posts seemed to be yrs old ,it was just doing my head in trying to remember it’s name
  11. Ah. Cool guys I think it was woodlots I will have a look Thanks. Mark
  12. So I was reading a post somewhere hear on Arbtalk a while ago and it mentioned a different forum that people sell timber in the round ,planks etc but I can’t remember what it was called ,obviously it wasn’t as good as ours but It’s doing my head in not being able to remember what it’s called any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year. Mark
  13. Hi guys I went for chaps for milling and carving as I am short and plump and kept growing out of my trousers and at £80/100 a time it was getting expensive, I still have a pair of Sthil trousers almost brand new if someone want to make me an offer on them , I will look them out and see what size they are. Cheers Mark
  14. Cool thanks,our forum is a font of knowledge it’s F###ing Ace
  15. So I am thinking I am going to have to watch some vids annealing !heat treat ,I have obviously watched forged in fire but that don’t teach you much ,annealing is that just heating it up to soften it ,how do you know when it’s done ,sorry it’s all new to me
  16. Cool as , I will have to look out for a cheap gas forge , I do know a blacksmith but he’s a coke head so unfortunately very unreliable, so a question in the image of the knife made from the rasp would that have needed to be heat treated after shaping or not Thanks Mark
  17. Wow Lux that’s amazing such a talent, I have never had a go at forge work but would definitely love to try my hand at it ,I find it totally fascinating .
  18. Hi not got one myself but my matey that looks after my saws has one and says it’s only a cheap one but it’s ace and a mechanic mate has one so apart from recommendations from my mates that they are totally worth getting I can’t help with what make to get ,good luck though Cheers Mark
  19. Very nice work ,the Damascus pattern is cool as ,do you plan on making them order, as I would defo like one .
  20. Hi that bracket is a bloody good idea I think I will do something similar,we have a Sip mig welder and it’s almost brand new everyone who’s seen it tells me it’s a good welder I guess I just need practice.
  21. What do you charge for that then
  22. Hi Mr Rough,I would totally be interested in seeing what the boards from that Beech turn out like do post some pics when you Mill it Happy Christmas. Mark
  23. Hi Johnson’s nice trailer, wish my fabrication skills were that good my welding is not pretty, one thing since first looking at the woodland mills ramps and then making mine the ramp slots in and then rests on the mill rails and I was wondering if over time the small spot on the mill rail would deform somehow effecting the run of the saw head ,I was thinking about making a small something to deal with the issue or do you think I am over thinking things . Thanks Mark
  24. Hi Andy why not get a winch ,there is a good vid on the woodland mills site of any easy set up it’s what I have done but yet to use ,hopefully I will get a chance on Friday if I do I will try and take a vid and post it . Happy Christmas Mark
  25. So Mymill is on a trailer, and I have a spare set of axels so I was thinking of extending my trailer to take a track extension and a hydraulic power pack for a log lifter as soon as I get some rams so not only do I want to make my own track extension but log lifter as well ,have any of you made your own hydraulics,as it’s a total new thing to me could I use the mill engine to run them some how or would I need a donkey engine, woodmizers only have the one engine or yet again would I be better off just buying some hydraulic log lifter ,it just totally does my head in how much these big companies charge for things that most of us with a little help could make ,so Mr Forest if you want to get together and have a go at making some extensions come on down we have mig and tig welders a small bender ,all the kit to make them but unfortunately my welding is crap, can you weld. As always keen to hear your thoughts. Happy Christmas. Mark
