  1. TBH that blog is probably for new stove owners getting there own wood, even though it is common sense
  2. Yer that is quite a lot of mass to drop, I suppose it depends on which species he is testing it on, or the mice are just having a go at his wood
  3. 2 years is bit of a long stretch to keep logs. Less than a year is fine so long as they are stored properly. I had some Scots pine rings on the yard for over a year, hadn't stacked them well, not on a pallet and not covered from the rain. When I split them it was as if they were felled the day before they were that wet. So I learnt my lesson, stack things properly the first time and safe yourself doing double the work.
  4. If dealers are complaining about online shops selling chainsaws and stealing there trade why cant they jump on the band wagon and get an online shop? And if its because their technophobes, then god help when saws have electronics in them!
  5. Found this graph on the change of mass of wood in different forms (in lengths, rings, logs and billets) over time. Might be of interest to some of you. http://wildstoves.co.uk/20131120103/blog/geeks-corner/seasoning-wood-rain-wind-or-sun/#.Uu-2pNShXiU.facebook
  6. Must be the Fastrac making it look smaller than it is
  7. Very shiny Fastrac What diameters are the logs? In the first photo the don't look that big.
  8. I find the Biomass centre very useful for comparing energy values between different values. Fuel costs per kWh
  9. Showa builders gloves (orange and cream colour) I have found to be the best. They are a bit pricey but they last forever and you can wash them which always helps.
  10. I usually get the Roughneck grenade from Screwfix for £10, Ive found them much better than other splitting wedges, but its never split a log into 4.
  11. How much would you be looking at spending for one of those?
  12. It would be better if it could split 3 or 4 billets at a time like this one. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbYp0bVn4pI]Dad's Wood Splitter - YouTube[/ame] But obviously in longer logs.
  13. Ahh gutting!! Had the same problem with planting trees and horses getting into the field in the spring time and eating all the buds and leaves, not a great feeling to see most things wiped out.
  14. Looks flat on the floor to me. Too many beers Any photos of the work in progress?
  15. Bailing twine inside a hose pipe tied to the house.
  16. If it was good wood (straight, limited knots, not oversized) in 3m legths, that could be sold at roadside for around £40 a tonne and that's were I got that number from. And yes if it is large and ugly wood then I would agree with you, no more than £20 a tonne.
  17. We have seen foxes climbing over 6 foot fences before and if there not climbing over there digging under the fence. I don't think you realise how much work is involved in trying to keep a fox out. It is much easier to control the numbers than it is to have a fox free area. And with regards to strong pens on concrete floors, why would you want to cage any animal, most people have animals to allow them to be free range and give them a good quality of life.
  18. Hopefully around the prices Ive given above.
  19. If split in cbm bags unseasoned you could ask for about £60-70 + delivery per cbm. If in rings in cbm bags look for about £40-50+delivery per cbm But then again you need to sell it at a price that someone is willing to buy it for. Try selling it to a firewood seller as they will be able to give you a reasonable price for the wood. Hope this helps.
  20. Your post got closed but yet you decided to open a new one for people to have a go David. Take the hint mate and have a chill out!!!
  21. Ah ok so they are the larger dumpy bags. Add a tenner onto each bag, could earn you an extra £2000 a year, which isnt bad
  22. £15 is the difference between hard and soft for me, and I sell by 0.75 cbm bag. I would say you could easily add a tenner to your prices as they look very cheap (unless your using 0.5cbm bag).
  23. Same as you....post knockers!! The reason I hate them is because when I see one it means I have to do fencing, which I hate with a passion
