  1. In the same boat, had a field to start planting but unfortunately the horses had to go in it and ate all the saplings. So I end up planting them in FC land after a clear fell. Would like to join a charity group for growing and planting trees if anyone has any ideas?
  2. Some mouldy sycamore on the fire today, kept the house nice a warm all day.
  3. Looks like a maze in there haha I bet there are forestry trucks still trying to get out :001_tt2: I'm guessing that's all destined for the chipper for biomass is it?
  4. If the milling market was worth the money for harvesters, then that's where the wood would go, unfortunately biomass is much more lucrative. Even though a fair amount of wood being harvested around us is grade and any decent wood is taken saw mill, everything else is sold for biomass. But also firewood is a tiny percentage of the biomass market, so your wrong in saying everything goes through a processor.
  5. Well there we are, you've answer why they don't recommend softwood. Another reason to get out of paying warranty.
  6. Yer I've just looked at what I wrote and its wrong. 5% for domestic and commercial customers so long as they don't go onto selling it
  7. 5% if its a domestic customer, 20% if its a commercial customer, so for a restaurant it would have to be 20%.
  8. Its a well known fact that so long as the wood is well seasoned and burnt at high enough temperatures (ie not smouldering) then the resin is burnt off. That also applies to hardwoods as they can tar up chimneys when not seasoned well enough. So long as the chimneys are well maintained there shouldn't be a problem. Stove manufactures are selling a premium product so their going to promote premium products. Nothing wrong with softwoods at all.
  9. Hopefully there will be a link on my signature and there's a link going to arbtalk from my site
  10. When I saw this the one van I thought would be awful was the Mitsubishi Canter. But from watching this they don't seem soo bad. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr3Lbtlh4y0]a_CRASH TEST MITSUBISHI CANTER EURO 4 - YouTube[/ame]
  11. Cover all bare skin, and take lots of plasters.
  12. TBF accountants probably have nothing to do with the build quality, after all they do the accounting, just like engineers do the engineering. The management team will make the decisions on whether they are going to create a quality product with a hefty price tag, or a not so great product with a competitive price tag. The problem with the build quality of new chainsaw can probably be blamed on the lack of competition within the market. With Stihl and Husqvarna being the major distributors of professional chainsaws (in the UK) the completion isn't big enough meaning they can be sloppy with quality as us, the consumer cannot go anywhere else to get a better quality product. As soon as the likes of Dolmar, Makita and Echo can get a bigger foothold in the market the better. Reason being is that you will have more option to buy from, the cheap and cheerful, to the mid range, to the top price top quality saws and this is how the companies will have to brand themselves to stand out from the crowd.
  13. Their not the easiest to move around as they weight around 250kg. I literally move in and out of the shed and move the logs to the splitter. If you had nice concrete floors then you could move it yourself, otherwise its a two man job to move. Not sure on the cycle times but its quick enough, Ill see if I have a decent video to put on here to show the cycle time. One advantage is you can change how far the ram travels, so if your splitting 25 cm logs rather than having the ram full extended you can set it to just above the log.
  14. Ah well that's good to know that its lasted for you! Hopefully this one will do the same
  15. So I took the plunge and bought myself the A11 log splitter, Ive had it a few weeks now and what a machine it is! I now don't have any wood left on the yard to split Had a great service from Terry Harrison (South Wales rep for Riko) and he managed to answer all my question regarding the machine (and I asked a lot ). All in all, a great company to buy from and a great machine. I have some pictures to share and hopefully some videos soon.
  16. Polytunnel filled up with wood ready for next winter
  17. No I completely agree. In all the news over Russia, the UK hasn't really said much about/try to impose acts upon Russia probably for the sack of the oil. But unfortunately our big ally America has, and that will not help us. Though a good thing to come of a oil shortage is hopefully more money will be put into renewables, so we can stand on our own 2 feet and not rely on other nations soo much.
  18. I can only guess that with the lack of Russian oil, electric gas and oil will go up in price massively, and even more people will be fitting wood burners to save money on other bills, hence the price of wood sky rocketing. Along with more demand for biomass for power stations.
  19. One word to describe that and that is "Painful".
