  1. Yep, nothing wrong with softwood at all - that's why most reputable stove installers discourage its use in new installations, to the extent that the warranty will be invalidated if softwood is used. But, of course, what do they know???
  2. LOL -maybe you should speak to the stove manufacturers!! nothing to do with heat - yew is one of the best burning woods there is - its all to do with resin build-up - especially in narrow stove flues. Not sure why you should be quoting from my website here anyway??
  3. Excellent price offered for good-quality green hardwood (ash, beech, oak, sycamore etc) delivered to Great Barrow nr. Chester. Nice easy drop and doesn't have to be processor spec.. We're interested in any amount from Transit load upwards. PM or e-mail [email protected]
  4. Thanks for posting that saying - I've been trying to think of it for weeks!!
  5. Will be happy to take it if its still available - we're up near tarvin which is about 10 miles from Cuddington.
  6. Anyone working in or around Chester in the near future? We are stocking up for next winter and looking for green ash, beech, oak, sycamore etc. We can offer an easy drop and a good price for anything from a transit tipper to a forwarder load. Drop me a PM or call me on 0796 337 5277 if interested.
  7. Isn't there an increased risk of kickback with a ripping chain? I bought one last year and it came with a warning that it should only be used in a mill type arrangement where saw is fixed. Still used it though and found it brilliant - but I just do firewood and so I'm not getting into the weird and wonderful cutting situations that u guys do!!
  8. The engine is a 2L peugout unit, not sure if yours is the turbo version at that age. Hope you got the truck very very cheap!! 15 yr old Tata is prob only worth the scrap value!!
  9. I think Kramp have got a special offer on at mo - £5.50 + VAT for 5 litres. Dont know if its still on but worth having a look.
  10. Hi Nick, gave up on boots a long time ago - the answer is wellies!! Good quality (Nora, Dunlop et al) wellies are the only truly waterproof footwear for work. Get a pair way too big and then put in those felt or fur insoles + wooly socks and you'll be as snug as a bug.... Steve
  11. I've been thinking about burning woodchip in my stove too - seems to good an opportunity to miss if the stuff can be dried out. Maybe a simple solar kiln (i.e. a bl**dy big second hand double glazed window panel built onto a well-insulated frame) would do the trick. Anybody tried it??
  12. If you can put the logs straight under an open cover (car port or hay barn etc) or if it doesn't rain much where you are (!!) then get them cut and stacked so that the air can get round 'em. Like one of your respondants said the more surface area exposed the quicker they'll dry. If you ain't got open cover (an enclosed space like a shed or garage is no good cos they need to be exposed to wind) and your climate is similar to ours here i.e. horribly wet!! then leave 'em as lengths until much nearer the time you will need 'em. Happy Burning!!
  13. We're starting to stock up for next year and are looking for ash, beech, oak, sycamore etc. We can offer a good price and an easy drop if anyone is working in or around Chester and we are interested in anything from a transit load to forwarders. Doesn't have to be processor spec either - we'll split anything! Call me (Steve) on 0796 337 5277 or send a PM if interested.
  14. Started processing good quality firewood (ash, beech, oak, sycamore etc.) last year and business is starting to build up well. So if you are working in or around Chester and want an easy drop just off the A51 between Tarvin and Chester please get in touch either by PM or by ringing Steve on 0796 337 5277.
