  1. Cheers for that! I had a go on one today and seems like a great machine, and as you say it built to last
  2. Looks like a beech-hornbeam cross, but mostly beech!!
  3. Nice stack you've got there :thumbup1: Bet you were happy for some dry weather this week for extracting it.
  4. Hey TCD, does the weight of the splitter make it hard to move it around your yard? Im looking to buy one and the only problem I can see with it is that its going to be a nightmare moving it, our yard is pretty muddy which wont help either. Thanks Sam
  5. Sorry Johny Current bid with BARNSLEY BOB at £50 per crate! (Bargin for the amount of wood you'll be getting). Do we see £60 anywhere?
  6. Wrong- If this was true why wouldn't firewood merchants sell unseasoned wood???? Considering most stoves will be 80% efficient. I believe your figures are wrong. At 20%=4100kWh/t and 10%=4700kWh/t 900kg at 10%=4230kWh, 1000kg at 20%=4100kWh
  7. Reading that I just imagined someone drawing serious faces on every log hahah.
  8. I had the same with one customer, tea and a whole packed of biscuits when I started work, tea and egg and bacon roll at 10, can of coke and pies for lunch. I was with them for a week and it was a good week haha
  9. If its ready to sell don't look to wholesale it by weight, after all most of us sell by volume. Sell it by volume and then whoevers buying it has a better idea of what they are going to get. You should be looking at around £80-90 per cbm, obviously depending on the market in your area
  10. Very nice :thumbup1: Ill be waiting for the videos.
  11. £70 per 0.75 cbm/£93 per cbm with mc of 15%-25%, delivered and moved to customers log store.
  12. We were also told we were going to have a solid 3 months of Arctic winds with heavy snow, but that never came hahah. Hope we do have a nice summer though.
  13. Look at how much you will sell it on for then 1 Minus the profit you want to make 2 Minus the cost of processing 3 Minus the cost to get it to the yard. £45 would be a good price or around there
  14. It should be fine, so long as its not sitting in puddles of water.
  15. The only problem I can see with having them in paper bags is that if they get wet they will just rip apart. But it would be a very neat and tidy product if you could do it!
  16. SUNSHINE!! At last, it has been a beautiful morning so far. Ive got a feeling its the calm before the storm tho. Still its nice to see. Hope everyone has a productive day in it!
  17. Ah great cheers for the replies, they are very helpful. I didn't realise that the petrol log splitters were that thirsty. Ill have to find out the wattage on the one I am looking at getting and compare the running costs to the petrol version. Or eat more Weetabix in the morning
  18. The Riko A11 is a hydraulic splitters that is run by electric motor I believe. I wanted the electric version so that I can work in a shed for when its raining (which seems like most the time now haha)
  19. Looking to get an A11v Riko electric log splitter and was wondering how much you spend roughly in petrol or electric to run your machine? And will there be much difference in price by running the machine off electric rather than petrol?
  20. Ahh ok, when I watched the video it made me think I wouldn't want to be in his shoe's while making that cut.
  21. I found this video on Youtube about getting windblown hung up trees to the ground. Is this the kind of technique that is taught in forestry course? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUQ1p2QPdxU]widowmaker trip.mov - YouTube[/ame]
  22. Does most of your wood sell for biomass or is it sorted into different grades of logs and then sold? I know a lot of the woodlands from down my way were funded by grants (many years ago) and they've start felling them now but can only sell the wood on for biomass.
  23. Diseased larch cant be used as firewood due to the FC restrictions on movement.
  24. Im guessing your one of the winners then :thumbup1: How is it managing your own woodland? I would love to buy some at some point and try coppicing with standards. Just looks therapeutic
