  1. Only burnt connie the first year I put log burner in, gave off great heat, seem to remember that it was split in early spring 10" long and was ok to burn same year. Swept the chimney and only got a carrier bag of soot after 8 months of burning.
  2. Dont tell Ken Hom
  3. Always burnt Connies never had the luxury of any hardwood, cut mine 6" long and split them, no matter what size they, are dry in 6 months and give great heat
  4. Hickory is normally used for shafts
  5. The hardest part is getting the briquette out of the mould you wont be able to push it out by hand I used a 3" x 3" mould and had to knock them out with the hammer shaft. If was to try again I would make the mould with angle iron welded around the base so this could be used as a support bracket and so use the press to extract the briquette. Hope this helps
  6. Interesting reading. BBC News - Establishing UK tree seed bank 'crucial'
  7. Always looking for good wood will give you a call when I get back from holiday, wont need as much as last time though as I went back on 2 wheels :laugh1: Think the landy has a 12mm thread so I'll do one at that size
  8. Recon 25t would do a good job, I tried to make them out of turnings with a tapered fabricated box 2 end plates and a g clamp to compress them, the only problem was getting them to release from the box without them breaking up. Those that came out ok burnt hot and lasted about 15 mins. Dont try to reuse pieces that fall off the briquette as these will not bond to unused chippings / sawdust. Good luck with it
  9. A few pieces from the lathe. Many thanks to Ed (armchairarborist) for helping out with the wood
  10. I've made a few myself in the lathe. Part a disc off the log hollow it out drill 25 mm hole 3/4 of the way up drill small hole and glue a twig in as a perch, attach disc back with a few small pins,I do mine with a arched top so water runs off better. Got one in the garden with finches showing a bit of interest.
  11. Might sound obvious but does he know when choke is on and off?

I was the same as you Bob undecided but saw them in either lidl or aldi think they were about £20 use mine mainly for fine detail sanding and cutting small pieces. Just remembered I got a kit with over 100 bits in from aldi for a fiver so must have got the tool from there too, I find it very handy

  19. I get enough stick of my son to get it going again, he will probably ride it before I do. Nortons were ok but mine ate them before breakfast lol 0-60 in 3.2 top end 148 not bad for a 70s bike
  20. The last time I had it out it ran ok but was a bit noisy due to the hole in the left pipes caused by me dropping it on sheet ice back in cough cough or 2 years after I got it. The paint has faded a bit but everything else is sound, sprayed it over with duck oil put plenty down each barrel and covered it with a sheet. If I remember right its only got just over 7K on the clock, keep meaning to get it out and see if it starts but never seem to get the time.
