  8. Good idea connies were brought in to give us a fast growing wood supply after WW2 when there was a shortage of home grown wood. What would you rather see, miles upon miles of non native trees, or natural majestic native oak etc.

  10. Lot of effort and unseen time gone into making it, ok you cant really charge for the veneer drying out. Not much idea of the wood prices but all in think its got to be £400 - £500
  11. Very brave putting something as nice as that through the bandsaw. Great looking box.
  12. If you ring them just above and below the branches you will sell them to turners, small stuff though say 7" to 12" dia.

  16. Weigh the wood microwave it for 10 mins let it cool keep doing this till the weight has reduced by 40 % . Do wear gloves when your doing this and dont put it on work surface or it will burn it.

Spalting can occur in living trees but more commonly when the tree / log has been cut and left in damp conditions not sure how long it takes to occur naturally but would estimate it to be 6 months to a year. I had some 9" diameter logs that were cut green I put them in a bin with a cover on and left them for a year in a cool garage the results were very good, at first I thought the had rotted but after drying they were ok. Hope this helps

    Use a centre punch to try and screw the sheared stud out, there will normally be a small pip where the thread has broken, put your centre punch on this and gently tap it with a hammer, make sure you go in the right direction ie anti-clockwise.
