  1. Hardwood is snob value IMO, cant beat 2yr seasoned conifer for kicking out the heat, ok you have to fill the stove more often but thats not too hard to do.

  5. You say its old school electrics have you checked the distributor, this may have a capacitor in it that could be on its way out

  8. Used to cut to 10" - 11" for personal use, but now found that if they are cut at 7" - 8" they give a lot more heat out due to extra air that circulates round them

  10. Quite proud of my first attempt, 16" dia copper maple, I think, leaning a bit on a 30 degree slope, don't think its too bad for a amateur, and yes that's the power cable for the saw in the background.

  12. Cheapest briquettes I have bought have been £4 for a 10 kilo bag, most are about £5-£6 a bag. 10 tonne would make 1000 bags. Could you try drying it in your kiln? Might take a few year before payback after buying briquette machine, but you can get them cheap second hand on the bay.

  17. Fit it yourself, there's plenty of advice on the net,if your chimney is straight it easy to drop a liner in, register plate can be fastened with angle iron screwed round chimney breast. Hearth can be just a plain slab of stone or similar stuck to floorboards with pink grip. If your not sure you have a good draw get a smoke bomb to test it first.

  24. When you have decided on the make and model you want, get the next model up, your original choice wont be big enough for your needs in the future.
  25. A 10 year old will still be a 10 year old in 50 years time. Its the amount of time it stays in the barrel maturing that gives it it's age ie 10 year old 15 year old etc.
