  6. pva would be fine. give it a few coats. get it off the ground and keep it dry and sheltered from too much wind. i'd happily take some but unless you are driving near J7 M4 then i can't. i don't drive. get some pictures up so we can see what you got.
  7. i hope you've sealed the ends...
  8. "like, dude, i can't believe you think i look like him. oh no, cops. bye..." he is called, Albert Knickerbocker Aloysius Snake. usually just "snake". lawsons is another greatly underrated timber in my opinion and i think it a shame that no one comercial wishes to mill it. yes i do have that book and it is an interesting read for all pub games...
  9. no problem mate, the guy who runs it is a nice chap in the states and i helped him out a few years ago by sending him a box of about 80+ samples of natives and exotics that they just don't get in the states. he's got a list of what i donated here, About the Project | The Wood Database i'm Steve by the way.
  10. i would put it in the speciality camp along with things like laburnum, whitebeam, sumac, laurel and anything else that is usually too small to be milled. best guess, £50ft3 for seasoned stock.
  11. in my opinion it is a vastly underrated timber and sadly everyone just wants to cut it up when they fell one. Leyland Cypress | The Wood Database - Lumber Identification (Softwoods)
  12. tending my hurt thumb which i nearly ripped the nail off of. only a flesh wound though. back to work...
  13. if you can find a few trees use robinia, it'll last forever...
  14. just a 100lbs though, makes it a very good power to weight ratio giving her an advantage... bloody impressive though...
  15. if anyone is doing tree work in the maidenhead area and you wish to get rid of a few rings then i will happily take some. doesn't matter what it is. postcode is SL6 0JN. give me a call if you wish to offload a small amount.

  17. never made any of these before but they were part of a favour.
  18. looking at the great beauty of these boards i envisage putting two together side by side as a top. if there is enough then it can be used for legs but i was thinking of another wood for legs. sycamore? give me a call over the weekend and we can talk it over. 01628666191
  19. if we go for dry then technically it's boxwood or lilac as they weigh 61-62lbft3 which is nearly as heavy as water (62.4lbsft3) then down the list should go, laburnum 53lbsft3, apple 52lbsft3, eucalyptus 51lbsft3. hornbeam, holm oak, plum and strawberry tree are all about 50lbsft3. for a wet wood i'm going to say strawberry tree...
  20. wet or dry???
  21. i think you answered your own question. the workshop is obviously not the same humidity as your home... i've just turned some field maple i've had for a year and i know is two years dry+ but at various stages in turning i leave it in the house to make sure it's as dry as can be...
  22. excellent quality workmanship there mate...
  23. just a few more pictures of this stunning timber. alun, any chance of making a table from some of this??? .
  24. i got an 084 with a 36" bar.
