  1. about £30 max
  2. it will still be perfectly good for milling then. can't wait.
  3. agreed. you could try an oven a few degrees warmer than the surrounding air with a little less humidity and leave it in there for about 3 months.
  4. unless you can find someone with a kiln, slice it into the thickness boards you require and stack them in a pile with 3/4" stickers 18" apart, then seal all end grain with pva or paint, cover well and leave for two years.
  5. unless that's punchably soft then its still worth milling.
  6. not sure what you mean by the words "possibility steel". you would hope that transportation costs would be lower seeing as the wood is already in this country way but it seems to be the opposite.
  7. pinus nigra is an excellent joinery timber and i don't know why if there are straight trunk that we don't mill all of them and use them in our own timber industry rather than ship in stuff from overseas. Austrian Pine | The Wood Database - Lumber Identification (Softwoods)
  8. felix, how can i pay you for the wood?
  9. i would be able to chop them in half then, perfect. please let them turn out to be 2 1/2". 2 1/4" might be ok too.
  10. cheers farmerjohn. ukulian, shorts are fine as the finished items are only about 2' long. they are to be the handles of oars sliding in to the end of a long carbon fiber shaft. the plastic ones give really bad blisters so wooden ones are preferred.
  11. yes please ask, i really want KD but AD for 5 years will have to suffice if i cant get any. please get a price or pass on my details. it must be clean and un spalted...
  12. i must admit i see plenty of spelling and grammar errors but don't know if they are down to that auto type thing you get on mobiles. people not putting a ' in the abbreviation of i will sounds like there are alot of sick people about. i did see phone spelled with an f the other day. they're, there and their get so mixed up it's untrue. in general we realise what the poster is trying to say so it's not a problem.
  13. what he said...
  14. here is some of the sycamore phil gave me. stunning wood isn't it.
  15. never heard of it.
  16. bit of yew isn't it? boards that small won't need to be treated the same as a 2' tree. when i cut stuff up that size i just leave it around the workshop. i'll seal the ends if the species has a tendency to shake but otherwise i leave it be.
  17. what on earth is sago???
  18. yes it is
  19. be on the safe side mate, rough it out first and seal the end grain.
  20. sorry didn't see that. do you think it can be turned?
  21. are you saying i guessed correctly or are you just stating it's size?
  22. it's not ivy is it?
  23. some stunning stuff. i got the skills but ain't got the wood:sad:
  24. give me a close up of the end grain freshly sawn so i can see the grain in detail and it may give me a realistic chance of guessing correctly. other than that, it's a tree.
  25. no oil can stop the greying process...
