  1. i pop in from time to time. not got a saw and never ended up getting into milling as it turned out, stuck to my wood turning.
  2. here sometimes mate. i've got a bit of Pagoda arriving on tuesday hopefully. get this stuff to any turners if it hasn't been done yet.
  3. the fella at vanguard helped me out and did me a deal as his van was empty on the way to a job in london. forgotten how unused to lifting i am these days.
  4. thanks for that, i'll give him a call to see if he can help.
  5. can anyone help me get this beech from west wales to slough? location SA44 5DW 16 lengths at 9-10' long 8 Lengths at 7-8' long
  6. some of the most recent sets i've done. these will be some of the last pins for a while as i've no dry timber left. i like this one, first a perfectly normal set of 10"x 5" with 4 1/2" Genuine Lignum balls. then the tiny set which are for toddlers, 6"x 3" with 3 " Genuine Lignum balls. they have gone to the national trust property "Trerice" in Newquay i think. the customer wanted a case with this set.
  7. the next two i had to use some of my genuine lignum that i've bought over the years. this log was about 1m by 10-11" diameter and weighed 75kg. the block i cut off weighed 22.5kg and the finished 10 3/16" ball weighed 11.4kg.
  8. the next job was to recreate this big sucker, a 10" skittle ball. i managed to turn a 7 7/8" from a bit of Argentine Lignum i had bought on ebay. the ball weighed 5.25kg
  9. this is a blast from the past. in 2018 i was asked to make the original set and they finally wore out after being left outside and used and abused for nearly 4 years. they are 23" tall.
  10. one of the smallest sets i've done at 3" diameter.
  11. these ones replaced an old set in Wales.
  12. this is meant to be a very large version of table skittles. that ball is about 7" across.
  13. i did a fair few sets of balls over the last couple of years
  14. just some of the skittles and balls i've done during lockdown. i didn't get much work during lockdown as all my customers disappeared overnight.
  15. i haven't posted on here for a while. i must start adding the last 18 months worth of jobs...
  16. it's a great timber to use. i just wish Warwickshire was closer as i'd ask the fella to bring it to me if he was willing but it's nearly 1 1/2 hours away up the M40...
  17. this was a nest i made for @Nepia. it even dried perfectly well with the pith still in it. that surprised me. again, just highly sanded and finished with Danish oil.
  18. pagoda wood is stunning stuff. nick as much as you can as it deserves to be saved. better than Elm in my book. also turns and dries like a dream here are a couple of bowls i turned with it. merely a danish oil finish.
  19. cracking job andy, nice to see my bowls in their final position too.
  20. both would be great. the ends need to be sealed immediately and sprayed with Borax. i don't care for the colour of the timber but there must be no rot at all and not riddled with knots. if we did discuss it i don't remember. this is what someone is cutting for me at present.
  21. anyone else able to mill me some 5 1/2" beech???
  22. as long as the wood is dry and you leave the typical 1/8" gap between boards it should be fine. be nice to see it once complete.
