  4. laurus nobilis?
  5. sunny all day here and the same forecast for tomorrow. spectacular...
  6. i'm sure terry is happy to receive my opinion (as that's all it is) and i'm not slating it as far as i'm concerned as he is an excellent turner that turns out some gobsmackingly good bits, i just don't like the lids. if these are to be perceived as bad manners then sorry but i do tend to speak my mind. i believe it's bad manners to say you like them when you don't.
  7. they are the halves, the balls will be 8-10".
  8. the walnut is of interest jon, please send me some pics and dimensions. just how rippled is the oak jon??? i might take some out of interest.

  10. thanks but seeing as it's been ringed up it's firewood to most people.
  11. can't say i like the lid of these but nice shapes.
  12. i guess it would depend on quality and i don't know the price i'm afraid, i do know that it's not cheap.
  13. ailanthus is just as able to grow in just about anything. i've heard it's even been found in cracked concrete...
  14. are you referring to western red or true cedar.
  15. just heard that leonard nimoy has gone to the final frontier, no one can pull off a character like he did with spock.
  16. should dry really fast just keep the mould away as it rots just as quickly.
  17. as a guy who likes top turn bowls i'll suggest them. i have a bowl saver so could turn nests, any chance of having some? Steve
  18. does anyone have some dry 4-5" walnut or fancy rippled wood? 12 wide would be good as i've been asked to make a couple of ball ornaments and expect that i'll need to glue it together. happy to pay for postage.
  19. whats "sporting"??? i think you mean spalting.
  20. make sure they are cut in the dead of winter before sap has risen. if it still hasn't you should be ok.
  21. Glenrothes is a bit of a long way though. pity i could have made lots of them from one that size. never mind, anyone else?
  22. still looking for laburnum guys, after what ti kindly sent me i'll need more as i've got what i can from it. 8" stems and up please.
  23. all depends on what sizes you need to cut. i bought an SIP 14" bandsaw and although it's not a spectacular industrial machine it does the job. it's a good alternative as a cheaper machine unless you can spend many hundred's on one. my advice is do your research...
  24. finally got round to taking a couple of snaps of how i keep my tools. the knife racks are fairly cheap versions of the 24" length and anyone can drill holes in a board and mount it. the rest of the mess comes naturally...
  25. should try to find someone who can cut them from the offcuts of oak framers...
