  1. they get used for mallet heads, i have about 20 kicking about here somewhere. one of the hardest woods in the world as well as one of the most expensive.
  2. could be spalted beech but some of the bark looks like alder.
  3. funny looking bark for field maple... did you see any leaves?
  4. would be a shame to lose them to the fire as in my opinion it is a very underrated wood. excellent for joinery carcasing, furniture frames, picture frames, skirting, picture rails, architrave, pallets, instrument makers, carvers and any interior joinery where you need a tough timber with a light weight.
  5. sizes and location would help. in the round i would have thought at least £100.
  6. ooooops, who ever this was got lucky. [ame] [/ame]
  7. this is universal stress control.... .
  8. give me a call this evening before 8pm. number is on the website.
  9. what diameter is it?
  10. that's a nice bit of cherry mate. give it to your local turner, it's too good for the fire in my opinion...

  17. i hope you haven't ringed up the tree, it's a fabulous wood.
  18. that would depend on the inside humidity level of the property that they go in to but we used to use KD timber for windows and all of it would be between 8-12%mc.
  19. they've lowered the price, boy i wish i had 3 phase. Large Industrial 32" Robinson EBT Circular Rip Table Saw Bench DC Brake 415v | eBay
  20. i've no copy lathe, i do them all by hand. from square blank to in the box is 10-15mins. i lined them up as i wanted to take a snap as i've not had that many turned in one go before. only took 5 mins.
  21. yep, beech they are. he's cleaned me out of 4" now so i need to find more. i've still got to turn him the 4 1/2" sets of his order so another 6 sets i think.
  22. my latest load of skittles. made all for one retailer of alleys and skittles he wanted two sets of the bristol shape (left) and 12 sets of the gloucester (right). took friday to friday to cut the blanks and turn them and created about 4 cubic meters of shavings...
