not hard enough i'm afraid. please don't put it on the fire pile. it's too pretty, give it to a local turner.

cherry splits relatively cleanly and is likely to split on impact with the concrete lanes so thanks but that won't be any use. the wood needs to be interlocked so i'm looking at things like apple, elm, whitebeam, hornbeam or oak. i turned a bit of eucalyptus last night and it's perfect for the job. would love to find some dry bits of that.

here is the ball i turned yesterday. as i was turning the union down the branch pretty much disappeared so i'll take straight euc as it's rock hard. there is a bit of spalting i the sap which is too soft really but this one is a test. .

hi all, after my failed request for knoty wood i did find something in the garden which was an old eucalyptus branch from my sister's tree that had been sat around for years. i turned it into a ball at the branch union and realised that this timber would be ideal. has anyone got any eucalyptus branches or trunks that is a few years dry with a heart wood 6" and wider. please get in touch if you have. i'll post an example of the turning when i find my camera.

why must everyone burn everything. i would be interested in the largest bits you have for turning. any available?

those species i've mentioned are not the limitation of what i'm after. i will be interested in anything that dries hard and is hardwearing... hornbeam, whitebeam, hawthorn, cherry, plum, holly, ash, sycamore, mulberry, holm oak, sweet chestnut or anything really hard. no softwoods please.

hi all, i'm looking for some old dry lumps of apple, eucalyptus, elm, oak or beech. they need to be about 7-8" where the branch is as they will be turned into 5 3/4" skittle balls. two or three knots are ok but the theory is that the branch attachment area is used as its much harder wood. they can not be rotten. they must be solid. they must be hard. anyone with any please get in touch. 01628 666191 .

can't remember if the one on countryfile was a giant sequoia but there can't be that many trees that look like that and there was a tree that had at least 4 stems feature some years ago.

if your in laws are fond of the tree and it has to go then i can turn it into bowls or something to remember it by rather than just firewood it.

here are some of the items that i turned for the exhibition. there was loads more than that as it was a month long exhibition but by the time we got there (3 days in) most of them had sold. .

none of the wood comes with a certificate but it does come from royal grounds.

not sure if you will be able to see the words crown estate on this billboard but they printed this when i had an exhibition in the savill building. .

its not burrs but i can get you wood from the crown estate if you like?

the craftsmanship is excellent i must say. the design is not my style but that's just me. i do however like the idea for the handles.

yep, whitebeam. is it coming down? i'll be interested in the timber if it is.

how about making a wire cage type thing that could be loaded and unloaded possibly with a forklift. that way you could easily load the cage outside and simply slide it in.

sorry mate but if he's mush inside then there is nothing you can do in my opinion except carve a copy in a rot resistant wood.

sutton timber are doing it for £1200-£1400 for 1" and 2" respectively.

i was going to say, it's one sizes fits all my friend:lol::lol: i presume you mean the sling shot? i would have thought a 1/2" surgical tube would be ok?
