  7. thanks for all your replies guys. it has loads of mould/algae on one side and the other has a couple of bits of gripfill that i'll have to chisel off. i think it's still a rough natural surface so i intend to keep it that way but if it was once smooth then i'll take the belt sander to it. cost me £20 off the bay and i just want to put it in front of the fire for my mum but need to tidy it up first.
  8. i agree with jon but i'll say £30

  15. it will still be perfectly good for milling then. can't wait.
  16. agreed. you could try an oven a few degrees warmer than the surrounding air with a little less humidity and leave it in there for about 3 months.
  17. unless you can find someone with a kiln, slice it into the thickness boards you require and stack them in a pile with 3/4" stickers 18" apart, then seal all end grain with pva or paint, cover well and leave for two years.
  18. unless that's punchably soft then its still worth milling.
  19. not sure what you mean by the words "possibility steel". you would hope that transportation costs would be lower seeing as the wood is already in this country way but it seems to be the opposite.
  20. pinus nigra is an excellent joinery timber and i don't know why if there are straight trunk that we don't mill all of them and use them in our own timber industry rather than ship in stuff from overseas. Austrian Pine | The Wood Database - Lumber Identification (Softwoods)
  21. felix, how can i pay you for the wood?
  22. i would be able to chop them in half then, perfect. please let them turn out to be 2 1/2". 2 1/4" might be ok too.
  23. cheers farmerjohn. ukulian, shorts are fine as the finished items are only about 2' long. they are to be the handles of oars sliding in to the end of a long carbon fiber shaft. the plastic ones give really bad blisters so wooden ones are preferred.
  24. yes please ask, i really want KD but AD for 5 years will have to suffice if i cant get any. please get a price or pass on my details. it must be clean and un spalted...
