  1. how much would you want per cubic foot? once cut i'll need them asap so i can cut them in to squares and seal them. this stuff splits ridiculously quick.
  2. if you are going to be milling some then please mill me some in 3 1/4" slabs as i have a use for it.
  3. what???? you gotta have seeds and leaves to back that one up mate. be interesting to have. what size is it? was it a stem or a branch???
  4. might be interested in some of that alex. what sizes do you have?
  5. these are all great guys, keep them coming. here's one i managed to memorise from a book i have on limericks. One fine October morning, in September last July, the moon lay thick upon the ground, the snow shone in the sky, The flowers were singing gaily and the birds were in full bloom, so i went down to the cellar to sweep the up-stair room...
  6. if one is coming down i might be interested in the wood, it's supposed to look really nice. File:Cryptomeria japonica SectionOfAFelledTree.JPG - Wikimedia Commons
  7. damson is the plum i've just turned and it doesn't look quite like that but it's still possible. come on phil put me out of my misery, what is it?
  8. hard to tell without the bark and i've just turned some plum with pink streaks like that but i'm going to guess lilac?
  9. really, i had some brown oak and i cut it in to boards and bowl blanks and it was dry within weeks...
  10. if it's perfectly good wood then i'm firmly in the camp of why chop it up for firewood? the branches should go on the fire and the trunks should go to the mill...
  11. as they are woodland trees the chances are they will be good and straight and are worth milling. if you were closer i'd be after them for skittle timber as i use 5" squares to make my sets of skittles from... try not to waste all that good wood. don't forget, colour should not matter as long as it's good sound timber...
  12. i love hornbeam, a vastly underrated timber in my opinion. chopped up and put on the fire too quick...
  13. i wouldn't bother with the top log as it will split as others have said. the other two wold probably be ok to mill now in to boards as they have less knots and should survive as boards.
  14. looks good phil, chuck it on next time you're round.
  15. i think the answer is simple, if it's rotten ring it up. if it's good get it milled. we have enough timber in this country and we should be using it ourselves rather than importing from europe...
  16. the table and benches i did for jon was fun but getting the table top flat was a pain with only hand tools. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/woodcraft-forum/60100-all-my-woodwork-so-far.html
  17. agreed, a bit big but i reckon it's alder
  18. just turned a bit of cherry given to me by phil71 that is strangely yellow... 5" wide and only 25 grams... .
  19. show off:001_tt2:
  20. agreed, coconut palm. just to point out, they are not wood... it's a grass.
  21. too right, look up the rights of an employer and i think the employer is i the wrong. if there have already been accidents at this company then they are very justified in saying "i won't climb it"...
  22. just found this vid on youtube. [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l38qapc3rA[/ame]
  23. there is no rush from me guys it's just that when the pear gets cut i want a half log bowl blanks and i need to rough it out asap to stop any potential degrade. can't wait for the sumac.
