  1. are they stirrers or eaters?
  2. i've been burning true cedar (cedrus) here and find it to be and excellent firewood. burns hot and doesn't leave much ash... i can put it on at night for shutdown and it's still smoldering in the morning... needs to be good and dry...
  3. i don't know about anyone else but green timber to me is worth 10-15 quid ft3. seasoned i can get wide boards for £38ft3. the board you describe is 6ft3 so i would say that seasoned (if you can sit on it for 3 years) it should sell for £240 possibly more. just as green wood i'd say £90. i should point out that i think there should be a premium for such a wide board as it took alot of effort to cut, perhaps some other milers could help you with that.
  4. its a beauty, even those large branches would be used by turners...
  5. start cooking meals just for yourself and see how long it takes him to learn!!!
  6. although i cook for myself every night i don't have much variation in my diet. all i cook are cheese on toast. scrambled eggs with ham and cheese in sandwiches. the occasional toasted cheese sandwich. a cooked sandwich which comprises (bottom to top) of bread, cheese, ham, cheese, ham, cheese, bread, cheese, ham, cheese, ham, cheese, bread all warmed up under the grill... i can also order pizza or go to maccy dees.
  7. i know a guy who is a chef looking for a good woman. i'm no chef and hadn't cooked these little things for years but don't know why i don't cook them weekly. they are bloody gorgeous... i made a test batch first to see if i could still get it right and i'm just polishing that off now. the next lot are for my nan's guests and will cook up another batch or two tomorrow.
  8. how about this one??? Master Carvers Complete Set of 275 Carving Chisels in box Addis, Herring, Pfeil | eBay
  9. it's my nan's 90th at the weekend so i'm making some flapjacks for the party (and myself) just wondered if anyone has a dish they cook on the odd occasion?
  10. i recommend stating that humans have mastered fire for hundreds of thousands of years... if you can't work it out ask your ancestors.
  11. trees like that should never be firewood... Sweet Chestnut | The Wood Database - Lumber Identification (Hardwoods) never used it myself but a perfectly good wood.
  12. impressive stuff, if ever there was and ad for time is money then that's it...
  13. where is it, what size is it and when was it cut? i turned a bit that nepia gave me and it's fabulous stuff to turn. if i can get it somehow then yes i'm interested.
  14. yes i'm interested in some of it.
  15. this guy says in the materials that it's oak and then in the description says it's sycamore??? if you can find a few interior designers then they should sell quite well but it's a thin market to aim for. if i could find it i'd do those myself... i hate metal legs though...
  16. how big is a lorry load? could you deliver to slough? steve
  17. you wont plane a board that wide, the biggest planer in the world will only be about 30"... you surface big dry boards like those on a wide belt sander which can be up to 5' wide. or you do it the way most people do and use a handheld beltsander.
  18. i could do with some better photos than those mate, i can think of lots of woods that it could be but need to see closeups of the grain and to see what it looks like in natural day light. cherry, mahogany, sapele or jarrah are just a few.
  19. if you can try to get some old advertising banners that you see on the side of the motorway in a field on an old traiiler. i got 4 on ebay at a bargain price and they are the best i've ever seen... designed to put up with UV bombardment so are really good
  20. it's already cut in to firewood so why ask? should ask before it's felled as you won't get much from it now...
  21. really nice work ian. for some reason i like the snowman uncoloured rather than coloured...
  22. we've just had a discussion about the trickiness of drying it. i am interested in some and you two can discuss if milling can take place. alec, mike said on the phone that he had some plums to remove so you may be able to do business on those?
  23. i've never seen a cellist crowd surfing before... nice music... i always loved the william tell overture...
  24. pear is a good hard timber and that specimen should definitely be milled, don't let it get logged up... i'f you can get it milled i may be interested in the wood.
