  1. 1st post does say "located in north leeds"...
  2. nice log stores but very expensive.
  3. agreed that can be a problem and i was thinking of a battery saw but i can only find one that will go through 2 1/2". there is a makita that cuts 5" slabs and even an old model that cuts 6 1/4" (if you can find it) but as you say leccy may be problematic... they are beam saws used by timber framers. could be usefull if you decide to do alot of furniture.
  4. i notice that you are using the mini mill thing to cut widths, would it not be an idea to get a circular saw as it will go through that in seconds and leave a cleaner cut.
  5. that's a maker after my own heart... how i long to have my own workshop big enough to do that sort of thing...
  6. type saw doctor in to google plus your location and you should find your closest one.
  7. hear hear mate... should make some staggering timber if it's good wood inside though...
  8. now that's an impressive tree... why does it need to be felled?
  9. why is it supposed to be that price???
  10. no firewood should be worth more than milled boards... even if the wood was £15 per ft3 (average rate for green timber) that's over £500 per m3. i wish i was closer then i would love some of the wood.
  11. always glad to see a tree planked rather than logged...
  12. makes lovely timber, please tell me it's not firewood...
  13. oak, elm, larch, pine, dougie fir.
  14. it's a bit hard to tell from that mate. cut in to it and i can help you but i need to see heartwood. as it is going bu the fact that it's straight and how the end looks i'd say either oak or beech, probably beech.
  15. i was thinking cotoneaster too.
  16. delabodge might be interested in that.
  17. it can be used for carvers who make rocking horses or merry go round animals. HC lime and sycamore are all used for this purpose.
  18. keep your eyes on ebay and find a cheap one near home. if you want to go for a good one my only experience is with the jet 3520b that i bought that is the dogs kahunas... i reccomend going to a turners shop where you can try one out and size it up or find a local turner who may let you have a go.
  19. when i turned it i did do it as a wet bowl and just let it do what it did really. i did not want to dry the whole thing in thick section as i know that brown oak yield is very low so though that i'd do it like that and if it comes off it comes off. thankfully it worked. i've has other bits that have cracked so am not sure how to prevent it. sealing didn't do that much to protect it when i cut turning squares or bowl blanks. i kept that bowl wrapped up in a blanket in the shed and it seemed to do the job...
  20. well whadaya know, i sold this beauty at the weekend for the princely sum of £200. boy am i chuffed.
  21. i have that problem as i need to get green wood milled for my skittles so have a few grands worth of wood sitting around for at least 18 months before i can work it.
  22. he is one talented dude... in saying that, to me those are just hollowed out trees. he has just followed the lines sculpted by nature and are not of his own design. would anyone else say that that is plagiarism???
  23. i wouldn't want just a simple cremation but can someone tip me in to erta ale in ethiopia please. i plan to make my own coffin.
  24. mine is a dv18dl Electric, Cordless and Pneumatic Power Tools and Accessories | Hitachi
  25. thanks for the link to that. very handy site. i wont have a go myself but at least i know where to get the parts. i actually have two of these drills and both are now knackered. the other one that i tested the batteries with starts smoking after a few seconds but they should be able to use the switch from it to replace the unit if that's what is wring with it. the fault is intermittent so could just be a loose wire if i'm lucky. my smoker is much more serious though and will only spend 60-70 tops to get parts.
