  1. unless you are hell bent on making planks i'd suggest you don't need a mill set up. i manage without one quite easily and simply cut logs to length and slice accordingly with my chainsaw.
  2. use it for firewood??? how dare you suggest such a thing:lol: that's a cracking bit of wood you go there mate bit i don't know it's value as is. dried boards would be about £80ft3 so work out its volume and sell it at a quarter of the £80. best guess is that i would want at least £100 for a bit that pretty
  3. lit ours the other night and set it on full heat to clear any crap that was in the flue, boy that was hot... should be clear now though and only expect to need it by end of next week unless the temp drops a bit...
  4. try muttley9050. i think he is a bit closer and might be interested? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members/muttley9050.html add a pick and it will make us feel more guilty for someone not taking it. how ling can it stay where it is?
  5. tulip wood is a bit better than poplar but if used in the right way then it's great wood. uses include, snowboard cores, matches, chopsticks, harp soundboards, electric guitar bodies, model making, pallet wood, plywood, carcasing timber, food containers, crate boxes, kitchen utensils, core timber for veneering on to and anywhere that need a light weight timber.
  6. poplar should dry without too much trouble mate. protect it from worms though...
  7. i'm with you on this one mate, what a waste of firewood...
  8. i'll second that. someone needs to save this tree, don't let it get ringed up please... try putting it on woodlots? is there no one with a mill that can use it???
  9. do you actually have the facilities to deliver but are just busy or do you not have the equipment?
  10. if you can take it down in two halves then drop it off at j7 of the m4 then i'll take it. otherwise i'll have to leave it. please don't let it go to waste...
  11. £5 per block+ postage which will be under £10. that's for any wood. i recommend the makore or mahogany myself as they look great. just looked at the cedar and it has a split down it so forget that. i only had the one bit anyway. the sycamore i have for my skittles is pretty as he put it so would be fine for this too. i do have some jatoba and santos mahogany but these are in 6"x 3 1/2" plank form not spindles but they are really nice timbers if you want to consider them...
  12. hi dave would this be a bowl blank or a really short spindle blank? i could supply you with mahogany, wenge, oak, cedar, makore or sycamore.
  13. ok they sell things to do with saws but calling themselves sawbit's. sounds like a nasty condition i don't want...
  14. 1st post does say "located in north leeds"...
  15. nice log stores but very expensive.
  16. agreed that can be a problem and i was thinking of a battery saw but i can only find one that will go through 2 1/2". there is a makita that cuts 5" slabs and even an old model that cuts 6 1/4" (if you can find it) but as you say leccy may be problematic... they are beam saws used by timber framers. could be usefull if you decide to do alot of furniture.
  17. i notice that you are using the mini mill thing to cut widths, would it not be an idea to get a circular saw as it will go through that in seconds and leave a cleaner cut.
  18. that's a maker after my own heart... how i long to have my own workshop big enough to do that sort of thing...
  19. type saw doctor in to google plus your location and you should find your closest one.
  20. hear hear mate... should make some staggering timber if it's good wood inside though...
  21. now that's an impressive tree... why does it need to be felled?
  22. why is it supposed to be that price???
  23. no firewood should be worth more than milled boards... even if the wood was £15 per ft3 (average rate for green timber) that's over £500 per m3. i wish i was closer then i would love some of the wood.
  24. always glad to see a tree planked rather than logged...
