  4. poplar is very good i believe. not sure on other specs though.
  5. no oil will stop greying it may just take longer.leave it over the summer then apply in the autumn and you should get plenty of grey colour if it's facing the sun.
  6. look's a beauty, try not to waste the branches if they are colourful as you should be able to sell them to turners.
  7. don't tell delabodge, he'll want the wood. something that old should be milled.
  8. has no one got ant straight ash for me? if it's very well air dried i'll consider that.

  16. what sort of quantities are you after?
  17. done that a few times myself when i burned my shavings in a oil drum, when it was very hot i used to get my shovel and scoop up the fine sawdust from the bandsaw and throw them in the air above the drum. whhhoooooosssshhh.... happy days.
  18. i can do as i'm a joiner by trade bit as i haven't got that big a workshop i've stuck to my turning for the moment. are you looking for one for yourself or to retail them?
  19. did it have a happy ending for the inhabitant or did you give it a trim? wicked looking timber by the way. more pics...
  20. if when you priced the job up you did not take in to account cutting up the logs like you did, remind him that you did them as a favour and were generous to do so and well within your rights to not have done any.
  21. that sprung to mind when i first saw the pic oft he leaf... it's the wavy edge of the leaves that give it away.
  22. here's a small bowl i did in holm oak which is fab stuff to turn but you've got to turn it quick or it splits like hell. the last pic shows the amount of radial shrinkage there was before it was finished turned. .
  23. yep, twas just a wee one when i got me mits on it. i was staggered as to just how fast it had grown as it was only 15-20 years old for 6-7" diameter. the wood is smooth as silk... the hornbeam has not moved as yet but i will be getting it out soon to chop it in to it's component parts and store it in my dry shed.
  24. here is a bowl i turned from a 8" wide log. .
