  1. Round here some farmers use the bashing branches repeatedly with a jcb bucket method to prune trees so alot look abit like that after.
  2. Temperature still seems cold compared to most years, hovering under 10C most days Checked the long term weather forcast on metcheck & no temp rise above 10C predicted for weeks not any days over 20C predicted all summer? This is forcast for North Wales. Dodgy forcasting surely? http://www.metcheck.com/UK/today.asp?zipcode=amlwch#.UXj4i8q1lnw
  3. Jonsered top then Redmax/zenoah next best of the husky owned brands & McCulloch the worst one, I reckon. One comapny four brands some are nearly same saws with different paint, but don't think any McCulloch share models with husky like some in the other regional badges do...
  4. Ran the first tank of fuel through it this afternoon cutting some logs Bought it from germany, very happy with it. Must be a rare saw here in UK Only worry is spares.
  5. I think you need a chainsaw,a van ot trailer, the gift of the gab ( this is probably the most important), and a thick skin to go round asking people when ever you see some fallen trees that have being sitting in fields or ditches for yrs or some tree cutting going on & fresh stuff left, be prepared to be told to get lost, but sometimes you can strike lucky, or maybe a deal if free doesn't work. Also get to know the right people.
  6. Agree with this.
  7. Tempted to get a cheap (realtive to the £2000 plus bikes that you see often now) carbon bike frame from ebay build a bike from parts Dolan Mythos Carbon Road Frame Set | eBay Trouble is my bike mechnic skills to build a bike & match the huge range of components availiable into something decent are lacking Is there any money saving building your own from components over buying a ready built bike? Second hand road carbon frame bikes on ebay seem not any much cheaper than new?
  8. In snowdonia they use s the method of using a wire with a rock weight hanging on it. Bit like this http://www.ehow.com/how_5614794_build-self_closing-garden-gate.html

  10. Was just wondering do all wind turbines spin clockwise?

  16. FC don't let anyone take wood anymore do they? They used to sell annual scavenger liecenses but then stopped them so the local peasants can't collect wood on the cheap anymore. H & S used as reason.
  17. Aldi workwear ones £5.99. Though they would be rubbish & fall apart but there lasting well, & material seems tougher than the craig hoppers & dickies ones. Should of bought 3 pairs.

  21. Wouldn't it be worth more as compost?
  22. Hi trying to find answers to a few questions about woodchip as a mulch or soil improver as have a load of leylandi woodchip to use on vegtable garden round trees etc . Do fresh woodchip rob alot of nitrogen from soil as it decomposes, any proper scientific research trials on this as heard some people say its abit of a myth & others say you shouldn't use it because of this? If so where does the N end up, does it get incorporated into the woodchip so eventually goes back into the soil? Leylandi chip looks a large part is the green leaves so surely it has quite high nitrogen in the C:N ratio in it compared to all wood woodchip anyway? Will it make the soil acidic as leylandi are conifers? Seem to be various opinions on this also. Maybe worth liming soil before using it?
  23. Yeah was a good program. Was impressed how well thoose beater things put the fire out just with one wack. Interesting that the guy funding them was an american rancher who must of cleared alot of rainforest for the land for his own ranch but wanted to stop futher clearances in the area.
  24. Why didn't they just fell them before nesting season? Probably take as long to put net on than fell?
